Fuel Starvation?
I've never had anything in my tank like you seem to get down there...is it the Hurricanes

^It's pump gas I swear, we used to run 87 for our NASA events and 98 Sunoco for the Grand-Am races. I've been running 93 BP fuel with 6oz of Redline 2 stroke every other tank.

only"fix" is a new pump assembly.
Understand your plight--i have an extra pump (only--take the old one out of your assembly and put this one in) that i had track starvation issues with but for the street it did fine. I can mail it to ya if you give me your address. Just keep1/4 tank in there, get a small gauge needle (VERY small gauge--i used a plastic surgeons needle) and go bonzai on the sock. While you have your pump apart backwash the internal filter also--you may be surprised at what comes out.
Like others said clean the tank well also.
all this may let you make it for a little while longer.

A new pump will probably NOT fix the issue.
When I started having this problem at the track, it was immediately AFTER installing a new pump.
There are two turns at PIR that slosh all of my fuel to the right saddle tank and there is nothing Ican do to the stock pump to change that.
Its a pickup issue.
I'm looking into simple solutions.

How about adding an auxiliary pump to the right side of the tank? I know you said you were looking into simple solutions Jeff, what are thinking of?

I do know that here in Puerto Rico some people make small fuel tanks in a cilinder shape and put that small tank after one fuel pump and then another fuel pump after the small tank that goes to feed the engine. That way that small tank is always full and if for some reason you dont have fuel pickup from the regular tank you still have gas in your smaller tank to feed the engine.

I started having this issue this past weekend again. This will be the second pump that I've had this happen on. It gets worse and worse over time. If I filled to the brim I could get maybe 20 minutes in before it started happening again. I'd go fillup and find that I'd only used 4 gallons.
Everybody gets the starvation issue with the stock setup if you let the tank go below a certain point but if you start getting the problem on a full or nearly full tank then replacing the pump will fix the problem for a time.
I'm thinking of trying the 09 pump as well. I wish somebody else would try it first.
I've heard a lot of it SHOULD work but haven't heard anybody say they actually did it.

Alien brings up a good point though, what he is talking about is a surge tank. I believe OD had talked about making a surge tank but not sure how far the idea got. I wanna know what Brass Mitchell Racing and Meyer are using to help their cause. Maybe Eric will let us in on the secret.

well i now have in my greasy old age spotted hands an 09 pump. Courtesy of mazmaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrttt!! Also long talk with Rick
They rock.
There are MANY changes to the 09 unit.
First the can is car specific --the older one wasnt. it is much better designed.
The pump is now a denso and appears MUCH better built
The sock is much different, not as restricted ,more security attached
The filter outlet (fuel to the car) is now at the bottom of the filter--not the top--know why thats important?
The venturi is also at the bottom as is the fpr.
course fuel filter and sock is now replaceable.
Will install tomorrow
Remember we are looking for good functionality ABOVE 1/4 tank.
