Dedicated AutoX Wheels and Tires

I'm new to autocross and would like to run on better tires then my current Avon 550s. I'm leaning towards the Azenis or the Ecstas for tires at the moment, but I can't decide whether to buy a second set of wheels.

I'll be running in BS so if I do buy a new set of wheels they will be 18x8s. Have any of you had any luck shoehorning 4 wheels with tires into the 8 using the back seats and the trunk?

Four B Stock wheels and tires fit in the back seat of an RX8 just fine. You don't even need the trunk.

In fact, I drove up to Nationals last year in a B Stock RX-8 with two people, a full set of wheels and tires, a full set of tools, and a week's worth of luggage for my co-driver and I without problems.

If you do use the Azenis on the street, just remember they are noisy

Has anyone run the Kumho Ecsta SPTs in auto-x, if so, were they a decent compromise for a streetable performance tire with some benefits in auto-x?

The SPT is a great street tire and many of the Kumho drivers race on them in the rain, but they would not be a great choice for dry weather racing.

Advan, Falken, Bridgestone and the MX are better for the dry.

Thumbs up Kumho Ecsta MX 245/40-18

I just got the Kumho Ectsa MXs a while ago (245-40/18), and they are terrific Autocross tires. A step below the V710R dot-legal race tires from Kumho.

They are fine for the street. Noisy at all speeds below 70mph. They 'thrum'. After a couple thousand miles, you get used to it.

They have a treadwear rating higher than the stock Bridgestones they replaced, but are definitely stickier on the course. The 245-40s fit with no issues and are almost exactly the same diameter as the stock 225-45s (so no speedometer corrections needed).
