You send an email and ask just like any other reclass request. Happens more than you think to go lower, plenty of people are willing to run heavier and/or less power to drop that star and have the full 19pts to play in thier base class - that's usually enough points to put good tires on a car, suspension, and address a couple other weak points if needed. With a reclass you're trading the ability to do weight reduction points and the points on power stuff for being bound by a firm minimum weight and firm maximum whp. There's no language in the rules that limits what the results of your reclass will be, up or down. It's up to the good Dr to come back with something that's fair though. With RX8s that take lots of parts to gain any power, it's an easy call as to what's benificial for us. Some other cars it's not benifical to use the reclass. Another fun fact - if you end up with enough negative points out of the tire section, you can drop a class (unless the verbiage of your reclass prohibits it).

Good to hear guys on T4 - I like the idea of Toruing, now I'm going to have to investigate that a little bit more. Thanks!

Not even going to try with this thread anymore, looks like the HPDE 2 superstar has it all figured out?

Almost anything can be made to be "competitive" especially in amateur club racing.

If you're talking NASA performance touring it's pretty hard to beat a well set up Miata. Just build a light weight Miata with some aero and a totally built motor that is tuned to choke down the power at higher RPMS so you end up at your peak allowed horsepower through the ENTIRE area of the powerband you intend to use. Makes for a pretty unbeatable package all other things being equal. Hard to replicate this with the rotary.

That being said the RX8 is a perfectly decent, fun and competitive race car in just about any class... just not necessarily "the best" or national championship winning material.

NAs and NBs yeah... somewhat, but not unbeatable either. Haven't seen any NCs though.

I race against a very skilled drive in a PTD NC Miata regularly - he won the National Champs in PTD once in Mid Ohio in like... 2012? On smaller tracks I can't beat him usually but high speed tracks the higher horsepower of the RX-8 can often beat him. However, he has been destroyed by older Miata's at the last two national champs. Both old miatas were built specifically to the dyno reclass rules so they made their max horsepower almost EVERYWHERE. Huge power curve. Ran away with it.

If you have ANY questions about SCCA ITR let me know. I have that covered and can probably answer any question without hesitation.

ITR in the mid-ohio and west area is small and or non-existent, but venture to the Glen our into the northeast and we have 10 car fields often...

I have seen enough regional results to know ITR dead in the SE also, good to hear it is good up that way.

Yeah, not much going on in SE ITR other than Tristan in the 300Z and Ricky in the Bimmer. FWIW, I am building a T-4 car that will see duty in ITR as well. Won't be very competitive in ITR but will be fun.

When are you going to have the T4 car ready?

Also will you be racing at Road Atlanta and Barber later in the year?

Yeah, I will be in the Z or the RX8. If we get the cage in hope to make it in March for the Majors. I may run the Z in EP(limite prep) or ITS. I will definitely be at Barber. Don't know which car but I will be there. Last year it was in the Pace/Safety car LOL.
