If you're referring to my race catback, it does weigh 8.1lbs -- verified on two seperate digital scales, one of which was calibrated within the last month. Feel free to bring a scale to Solo Nats and weigh it there. The catback pipe weighed around 5lbs, the 12" resonator was 2.5lbs and the mandrel bent 45* pipe (not the thickest pipe) weighed around 1lb (and we ended up cutting it in 1/2). Parts ran me right around $100 and it was $100 to have it made up.

I'm not sure if the resonator I chose is big enough to muffle the exhaust note for the strictest sites, but it is angled towards the ground which I'm told provides additional noise suppression.

One thing I'll add...the real number I've been after all along is what my car weighs in race trim. I realize '06 and later models got a revised starter and larger battery (which are heavier), so my ultimate goal is to make my '06 as light as possible within the allowances of the stock class rules.

I realize scales vary, but I hope to weigh my car this weekend at the DC Pro in full race trim.

it actually stated on early 2005 models (mine had both, Dec/2004 build)

and maybe my scale read high then, based on the numbers my original exhaust (now Carter's) should have been lighter

Gotcha. I think Harvey's '06 weighed around 2,850lbs at Nats last year, so that's my target (give or take 10lbs).

I work in a medical office, so our scales have to be calibrated once a year. The exhaust was 8.127lbs on my office scale, and 8.13lbs on my friend's digital scale in his shop. The resonator is what saved a bunch of weight, and I doubt it's big enough to suppress exhaust noise below 92dB if I had it come straight out the back. One local guy who runs an SM2 vette, told me to angle it towards the ground b/c he normally sees a 4-5dB reduction just by doing that -- which is why I went that route.

Should be easy to beat 2850 lbs, we were a little heavy on fuel last year (1 or 2 gals above the light) and had a video camera on board. If memory serves, my exhaust is 11-12#.

it just depends what scales you use, despite calibration checks etc. the numbers between different scales just aren't reliable enough to make comparisons

UPDATE:

Weighed the car at the DC Pro to get a baseline (I know scales vary and I'm unsure about the accuracy of these) - 2,888lbs. This was with at least 5+ more gallons of gas than we needed in the car and the factory mats.

By my estimation, if the factory mats weigh 2lbs combined, and a gallon of gas is ~6lbs each, that'll put our true race weight at around 2,856lbs (on the scales at the DC Pro).

P.S. The 8lbs race exhaust is quiet. No increase inside the car in NVH, and not much louder than my mazdaspeed v2 catback on course. Angling it towards the ground does wonders for noise suppression.
