Autox write-up E46 M3 vs. RX-8
I was looking at some Solo II results and came across this team called "Team WTF?!"
One of their members has an RX-8 and some have E46 M3.
Here is a cool article with the M3 guy comparing autocrossing the M3 to the RX-8.
http://www.teamwtf.org/index.php?opt...d=86&Itemid=81
(p.s. hope it's not a repost)...

Autocrossing clyde's RX-8 the day after autocrossing my M3 is like the difference between typing with and without welding gloves.
Hahahhaha...that's a funny quote.

The following is an excerpt from an IM conversation back in May between the RX-8 guy and one of the other M3 guys (names changes to protect the guilty):
[14:34] RX8 guy: oh my
[14:34] RX8 guy: i just totalled up what I've actually spent on parts to get the RX-8 setup
[14:34] M3 guy: fu
[14:34] RX8 guy: no, seriously...without itemizing, I never would have guessed that it's actually this low
[14:35] M3 guy: f u
[14:35] RX8 guy: $409.34
[14:35] RX8 guy: obviously, that doesn't include tires
[14:36] M3 guy: f u
[14:36] RX8 guy: but it does include an exhaust that we havent installed yet
[14:36] RX8 guy: i even included the money I spent on shipping the bar to saner
[14:36] RX8 guy: and the gas to/from Koni
[14:36] M3 guy: STFU

I stand by every word, though since clyde has found someone else to co-drive (and since I chickened out on my last car purchase and didn't get an RX-8), I haven't had the chance to autocross one recently.

Hopefully PEPCO will turn the lights in my neighborhood back on before I get home from work so I can see it.

Very interesting. When it was time for me to replace my old E36 M3, my two final choices were the E46 M3 and the RX-8. Most who can afford an E46 M3 wouldn't consider an RX-8, but I had a soft spot for my old RX-7s and just had to give the RX-8 a try. Sure the power was far better in the M3, but for daily driving I can't really use it. The RX-8, on the other hand, had this light and nimble handling balance that felt so perfect in comparison.
I don't know if Team WTF is clueless or not, but this guy's story confirms my own feelings about why I chose the RX-8 over the M3.

We finally replaced the OE front bar on Saturday morning with the TeamRX8 bar and just barely got it done before our heat started. The bar seems like a significant improvement (much better transitions with only a tiny bit of additional push in the really, really slow stuff). I'll have on car video of John and I at www.teamwtf.org later tonight. Those will easily offended ears may want to mute their audio for my Saturday runs, though.
