There are some people on here who are apparently buying them. Spill the beans, did the 285's run into any problems with clearance or what?

Some how the Thompsons got them on the stock 18X8 and 18X8.5 stock 350z wheels, took four hours. Not sure if it is a wheel design thing, but three of us tried for like an hour and could not get it on a 18X8 SSR comp. Now if you had a 3 piece wheel you could try to build your wheel around the tire.

You mean getting the caster as close to -0- as possible? I'm not familiar with how far our caster range is, but mine is currently around 6 degrees.

Paul,

When you get your alignment, start by setting the caster to the minimum setting, which
will be around 5 degrees. Now set your camber to maximum (-1.2 - -1.6). Then increase
your caster until the camber starts to drop. stop there.

Anyone got the scoop what's being run on the top BS RX-8s at Topeka? Anything bigger than the 245/35x18 V710?

Thanks,

Barry

The majority will be on the 245/35 V710s. Kumho doesn't make a bigger size that will fit on an 8 inch rim. There are only a few adventurous types who will run the Hoosiers, and it looks like I'll be one of them.

Anxious to get your opinion. I'm preparing for BS for our next season here in the SF Bay. I'd rented some 245/35 710s for BS at the Atwater Tour but fell in love with a set of second hand 285 V710s on 18x9.5 RP-F1s from Brian Goodwin. I'm thinking that if I'm going to spend big money for new tires I want big tires.

Good Luck in Topeka!

Keep in mind the 9.5" wheels aren't BS legal. The 285 hoosiers fit on stock sized 18x8s.

I know Barry is aware of that fact. What I'm not sure of is how he's going to like it when he gets those big tires on a 8" rim...it'll be quite different.

I understand why Jason is running the 245 Kumhos, but Joe Goeke (who I think is going to win, this year, if Jason doesn't) also runs the 245, and he has no "obligation" to do so...

The 285/30 V710 will fit. It just takes a few hours of time, effort, sweat, four-letter words, and skill. For each one. Or something like that.

The 18x9.5 RP-F1s are purely for fun. I justified the wheel purchase after picking up 5-285/30x18 V710s for $100.00 and I'm not sorry I did. We've run a track day, one autocross (just for fun) and have another planned next weekend.

Not sure about the A6 285, or 275, for that matter, on 8" wheels, especially in light of the spec: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty= Never hurts to seek other's opinions/experiences.

Thanks,

Barry

Rumor is that all the other Solsti' will be on the Hoosier of various sizes. 285/30 seems to be one pick.
Obviously all of us will be on the 18 x 8 rim.
Should be interesting on how it plays out.
Stay tuned!

I'm all ears. Good luck Fast Mike! Hope the Kumhos work out for you and you bring back some wood to the West Coast.

Yeah, can't wait to see the results of that.

Tues/Wed weather outlook: http://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...m=search_10day

I find it intersting looking at the historical weather for Forbes, that it didn't rain the past two weeks on Tuesday through Friday. Grrrrr.

I don't see a reason to bother with the Hoosier. The 245 Kumho does all we could ask for, and heats up quickly in cold weather.

Eight run 245 V710s here. The car owner and I just scuffed them in at a local event yesterday.

I will be running Team RX8's Hoosiers that he ran with DKNV at Packwood (I think?). Those tires look like they showed good wear across the face of the tread, and stacking them next to the Kumho's on the floor, they are about three inches higher, but I know the patch might be a bit strangely shaped.

I have not run them yet, but will on Sunday and then Tuesday and Wednesday. I am excited about it because I finally found some camber in the front and the push I have constantly complained about is gone. Still, my expectations for Nationals are realistic, and with me driving, it is not a fair measure of the goodness of one tire versus the other.

If the forecast is accurate, I will be very happy. I was soaked last year, and it sucked. Chances remain that there will be some rain, and I am stuck with Kumho Ecsta V700's for the rain if puddles form.

BTW, the Kumhos are an amazing tire. We have over 110 runs on them, and two of the four are quite usable and two are still pretty good. We ran them at a test and tune on Saturday, and after about 30 runs, they still worked pretty well. The fastest run was the 30th. Great tires. Maybe we can beg them for a 265/30/18 with cantilevered sidewalls.
