Talking autoX this Saterday

Took my baby out to Qualcom Stadium on Saterday for some autocrossing. This is my second time out with the care for autocrossing. When I first arrive at the event, to my surprise there were at leat 12 350z their. Man that was a great sight to see. I found out later that the 350z guy were having a contest to see who had the best moded 350z. Some had supercharger and turbo charge other with sillen goodies on it. They were planning to run autocross and later head up to the 1/4 mile track at Carlsbad speedway. Anyway, I was planning to run in the B stock class but I was late and had to run in a different class. I just register for STS class but I would compare my time in the B stock class. I'm still learnning about the car and just wanted to see what she is capable of. The best time posted for B stock was

s2000 59.753
bmw z3 60.125
350z 60.470
my rx8 60.743
350z 62.590
rx8 63.752
350 64.500
TVR 65.235

I had alot of fun. I was pretty happy with my time. I don't know if the s2000 or 350z were running racing tire, but I was running completly stock. My best run of 60.743 was with the DSC of. I found that with DSC of I could play with the thortle in the corner and keep my rev up with out the DSC interfering when the tire were slipping. This show how competative the 8 is and it can compet with the 350z and s2000 in B stock. I planning to run for the B stock titly in 04. ZOOMZOOOM!!!

sorry I didn't take any. I think a couple of them were supercharg.
I didn't get the chance to check out the rest of the Z's but every single one had nice aftermarket rims. I belive the best time for the moded Z's was 58 or 59 can't remember. They all look pretty sick.

Uh, what TVR was there? AFIK none are for sale in the US so must have been imported.

And unless it was either an old one, or poorly driven it should have eaten everything else there..

Nice to see a Stock RX-8 keeping up with ALL the competition again in the real world, not on paper

So were you on your stock tires?

And was that leading S2000 was on race rubber?

Damn, 60.743 is awesome. I ran in the first run group and drove like crap. My best was 63.052 plus 2 cones. The course is pretty dusty during the first group and I spun out on the first run.

I saw a blue 8 lined up after lunch before I had to take off, was that you? There was also a yellow 8 that ran in my group in IS2 class (not sure what he's doing in IS2). He did well too, and with DSC on! I think he was in the 61 second range.

Yes the blue 8 was me. Sorry I miss u. I hated when u have to run in the first run group. I saw your black 8, look sweat and so did the yellow one. My best time with DSC on was 61.246. Better to have it off, but you must be ready to catch. The rear end has a tendency to slide out but some adjusting with the steering wheel and throtle play is needed.

I don't think they were on race tires, but I know that the 350z had upgraded his stockers (the Z gets the same RE040s we do). I'll ask my friend and see if he knows. He runs the 62.590 Z, which has RE040s up front and Potenza S03s in the rear.

I'm also completely stock by the way. I think a tire upgrade would help a lot.

Thank for the reply mp5. Are u planning to run in the practice session later this month. The track lay out was great. alot better that last time. I think the Miata guy design the last one, man it has hard not to hit any cone. Hop to see u out their next time.
Have a HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAY!!!

During the last autoX their was a pretty long straight, where I on my third and fastest run I almost shifted to 3rd. I came out of the corner pretty good and had a good run at it. Heard the beepping sound and was getting ready to shift but the corner came up really quick. The first two time I got it up 8300 rpm.

I usually autoX at Qualcom stadium here in San Diego California. I like it when they set the cours up on the west side of the stadium. Lots of room on that side. That the same sid where they have the 1/8 mile drags strip for the drag racer. It is aleast 1/4 of a mile long if not longer if we use the hole west side of the lot. Looking forward to next year, because the Padres got a new stadium and we have it to ourself.
