Autocrossing...in an Auto?

Hey guys,

I wouldn't be surprised if this has been posted before, but I searched, with little luck. Everything I found was specific to the MT. So, my question is...will a tight autox track pretty much leave me in low rpms in 2nd gear, with absolutely no power? I've never been autocrossing before, and I'd like to get my feet wet. I just wondered if anyone else here did it in their auto.

Yep. Whooped the MT's. Leave it in first gear. You will do fine. Not a lot of tracks gonna allow you to go fast enough to get out of first gear.
I had a ball in my AT on the track and beating the manual RX8's. Priceless.

^Most autocross courses are 2nd gear courses...And by most I mean the 30+ events i've ran so far this year...I shifted out of first...and rarely go back.

We only had one track that allowed me to get into 2nd gear. You folks must do some big tracks. Ours are about 60 second courses. Pretty tight and all.

And Razz, she'll do 55+ with an AP redline of 9000 rpm.

That's what makes it so great on the track. First gear all the way. Sure you here the beep and maybe bounce off the rev limiter. But nothing like being in that gear at those rpms. It's all throttle control.

I wouldn't recommend that for a first time Autocrosser, they'll find themselves having a hard time with they're steering inputs and may fall victim to overdriving.

OP, Nearly all the time on a AutoX run you'll launch and go to second and stay there. I have yet to find a course in the 8 where I needed to go back to first during a run. Good luck!
