2005 SCCA Auto-x Rules On-Line

http://www.scca.com/Solo/Index.asp?reference=rules

Now we can reference one central document when discussing rules.

I've e-mailed Doug Gill to find out why STU and STS2 rules weren't included.

If you participate in National events, you will still need a hard-copy of the rule book.

I'm still a rookie in Solo II. Only did 2 events last season. This upcoming season will be my first 'full' one.

"The on-line and downloadable versions of the Solo Rulebook are not official documents -- the only official Solo Rules are the printed Solo Rules as produced and distributed by the SCCA Solo Department."

I wonder if we will have to buy a copy to race within our regions? Or maybe it will be left up to each region? I guess we wait and see.

I've never heard of a region that demanded that you have a rulebook to run as a member. Just National level events.

In the Oregon region they require you own a copy before you can race. Or at least they did in the past. The question is whether they will require it this year since we can read it on-line.

From Doug Re: STU/STS2

Hi, Keith,

No, there's no reason. It's an oversight mostly from the time crunch to get the Rules approved, updated, corrected, and published before the first of the year. I think there'll be a lot of things that will have to be cleared up with tech bulletins (Prepared has several items). The good news is I've been told that corrections may be able to be made to the on-line version. (Keep your fingers crossed!)

Happy Holidays!

- Doug

This is the second biggest benefit to having the rules available online, IMO, and makes it more valuable in some ways than the printed version. What I was hoping for (and I know that it's a lot to have been hoping for) was a fully indexed, linked and anchored document(s) with regular updates/corrections as needed in addition to a pdf. It would also include the unique supps for each Tour and Pro when they become available. All of this would make the rules lawyering and Q&As on forums like this a lot easier. Of course, it would also take quite an effort to produce such a version and msot things in life are accomplished with a number of small steps as opposed to grand and sweeping changes. I'm happy that the pdf is available...I jus thope that's not the end of it.

The next part of the question is whether SCCA would be upset if someone went out on their own to dump the text and create a more useful online document?

There's a lot of stuff on the SCCA's website that makes one "go figure." :eeps: (this board still needs more smilies)
