Hi I am just looking for someone near me who has a cobb access port, not really looking to buy one unless it's dirt cheap. All I really want is to remove rev limiter and fuel cut off limit at top speed.

thanks for the info, i have 2 questions. if i get a used AP will it just forget the previous car once i plug it in to mine? and the other question is that do all APs come with those basic settings to remove rev limit and speed limiter?

the ap has to be unmarried from previous car or it will not work on yours. it has to be married to your car. it comes with a "stage 1" tune but you need to contact cobb and request their race tuner software. getting the program will take a day or two. after you have that you can change anything you want. be very careful trying to tune it yourself
why do you want to remove the limiter? the renny doesnt make power past a certain point. some guys actually lower the limiter

IRC the COBB AP does not even come with base maps for our cars anymore, MM puts a base map on his before he ships them out, so buying used I am not sure what will be on the AP.
Either way the tune will need to be edited to do what the OP wants done
FYI increasing the rev limited is potentially dangerous to engine life and proves no increase in HP or performance.

for instance a 25K motor dead, the rev limiter was increased and a bridgeport done, dyno's where given and for the benefit to risk. don't waste your time unless you have a couple grand laying around for a rebuild, which given you don't want to buy an AP I doubt

carbon iirc that bridgeport built isnt a traditional bridge. if its the car im thinking of the bridge was done with a drill press and about five holes next to the intake port. if it is that engine i remember him getting a lot of **** on how it was done. ie assembled on a five gallon bucket, the port work, how the side seals were clearanced, ect.
if its not the one im thinking of im sorry. maybe someone else will chime in.
btw im not an engine builder but that engine build got flamed for a while

cobb . mazda RX-8 accessport . map listing
If you get an 'married' AP you can have Cobb Reflash and license it to you for $250
I have done this on the one for my Shinka and have an married one I need to take to them (Austin location is an hour from me) that will be used to tune my wife's LY 04 GT...

I have an 07 6speed 8, with more ports and stuff, I topped out at 125 in 4th gear, if I remove rev and speed limiter I will be able to use my 2 other gears, but itll be tough surpassing 5th gear but thats where the tune will come in

Are cars are speed limited at 150 MPH, rev limit has nothing to do with speed limit.
Technically speed limit is a bad choice of words, an S1 is good up to 175 mph with the OE gearing, but due to wind resistance and our lack of power 150 is about all we can manage
Rev limit saves your engine, speed limit saves your life
*Edit* For M/T only. A/T follow Al below

There isn't a speed limit on manual transmission models. Only available hp and aero drag will will limit them.

Technically speed is limited by those characteristics, just a general term.
OP, better off getting an AP for beneficial reason. Such as increasing OMP rates, and cooling fans. That with a good tune and you wont regret it.
The rebuild from increasing your rev limiter you will regret.
Also side note the A/T is limited lower for a reason. IRC the torque converter has a much greater chance of failure, also the drive shaft is not rated for it either.

yea, i have read up on it, and it it true that, increasing rev limit has no gains in hp what so ever it just allows an additional 2-3 mph per gear, i had just bought one with everything included, mostly for beneficial reasons as well like carbon8 says, the problem is, is getting a good tune map for it, i dont believe itll be coming with maps preloaded on it, so now my question is how hard will it be to obtain a good map from either cobb or MM

thanks for the info, alright one more question, im pretty sure i just cant get MM maps for free, but my AP i had found out is an original AP does not use usb interfaces to the other half of the AP, if i were to buy MM calibration service will i still be able to use it with the original AP?
