I've left turbos sitting for years, and used them with no problems. I think you heard a myth. Keep the inlets taped, and box up the parts so bugs don't infest areas...

It's far simpler than say a JDM motor that has been sitting for who knows how long, and still runs once you purchase it out of a scrap yard...
