If, as your member name says you have an 04 RX8, then only 04-08 (S1) model years will work for your car.

The biggest problem is with the oil injectors. The S1 has 2 injectors and the S2 (09+) has three. At a minimum, the PCM would have to be changed out. I don't know if anyone has totally looked into what would be involved.
If it was easy, I think a lot of it would be going on.
