getting into a vehicle with a driver who has been drinking is also a choice. alcohol could not have contributed to the accident. unless you have proof/real life knowledge that this accident was caused by the use of alcohol versus just another road racing experience gone bad where someone had consumed a beverage or two. the article says alcohol was involved in the accident but doesn't say if the driver had 1 beer or 20 beers. until you know the situation do not draw conclusions to an already disheartening situation. and again the point that the passengers did make a choice to get into the vehicle has to be reiterated. they also had a CHOICE.

Yes. They are. Yes they did. Drunk driving kills people. This is not a new revelation. They made the choice to put their key in that ignition and that is exactly the CHOICE that got someone killed. It was their choice to have more then 1 drink. It was their choice to not have a DD. It was their choice not to sleep it off. It was their choice not to take a cab home. There are so many points at which the whole bloody mess could have been avoided in the first place, it is morally reprehensible to give any kind of excuse or benefit of the doubt to drunk drivers.

Drunk driving is pre-meditated murder. You just aren't specific about your target or when you're going to do it. Maybe you'll do it tomorrow night, maybe 10 years from now, maybe you'll get lucky and die of old age first, but every time you turn the key on a car while drunk, you're fixing to get someone killed.

Might a drunk driver have positive qualities that could be loved by the community? sure. Of course. I'm sure the drunk drivers family loves them very much, but that does not make them any less of a malevolent influence upon society, along with anyone who tries to justify or rationalize their actions.

OK... normally I don't care to chime in when I read this kind of rubbish, but this is bothering me. You keep mentioning "my brother is a Paramedic/FF...", what are you trying to prove?
You have no experience on what goes on at the scene of an accident like this (and its something one doesn't care to share with others).
As a FF/EMT, you do have to separate your personal feelings so that you can do your job and not let it interfere with your own life, but you never go throughout a scene "cold-hearted"... especially when it involves a child and the parents arrive.

And you say this with such disrespect... I'm not even going to touch this comment.

Wait until you lose one of your kids due to someone's "mistake". While I have never lost a child, I was a firefighter/EMT for several years and have been through this. But you don't see me going around telling people, "I scraped kids and families off the streets..." That's just immorally wrong and an immature comment.
I will agree on 40 years being too much. The guy has to go through life knowing he was responsible for killing someone and ruining the lives of many. I would be satisfied with 20 years.

Sorry to hijack this tread with a rant......... back to the topic.

All you people that bitch about getting speeding tickets, please post here. Atleast when you say law enforcement sucks because of your speeding ticket we know that you're an idiot. Prime example.
