I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that at least part of the Vettes problem is he still has the runflats on it...

well. a vette sucks at handling. everybody knows that.
WHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

I mean, who in their right mind can make such a statement? The Vette can out handle our cars and has ALOT more power (it cost alot more too...lol) and in test after test the C6 just kicks butt.

Anyone claiming the C6 can't handle....well, just shows how little they know about that car.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but how could you make such a statement.

Wow....????

I'll have to wait to get home to watch this, but I just had to make a comment on that crazy statement.

I think the C6 is a great car and have many times thought about trading out to a base C6 with the Z51 package.

I found the secret to the 8 is how easy it is to find its limits and push it there. A lot of fun. It really is an easy car to drive fast.

Ummm - no! I was at my limits. The car had quite a bit more in it in the twisty bits. In the next session I lapped with the same C6 and a Z06. I got on track in front of them and stayed in front for half the session. I finally waved them by as I was backing off since it was the last session of the day and my concentration was starting to fade. I go back to Roebling Road in May and can't wait. It is a very fun track to drive. I learned how to steer with the throttle there and that has been a valuale lesson for tracking a car. My good friend Stop&TurnFreak who drives a modded EVO8 and is an instructor drove another RX8Club member's car that weekend and was sold on our handling comparing it to a Porsche 944. In fact, he has joined the GARX8 bunch for all our track events and will soon have an RX8 too.

This is no surprise to anyone who has ran the 8 on a track or at an auto-x event. I auto-x with a corvette club ( I have an 8 and a '96 vette) and several different cars routinely put down quicker times than the vettes. Last time out my 8, a 350 and a modded EVO VIII all put down quicker times than any vette than ran that day. The two fastest cars that day were a Porsche and a Miata which ran dead identical times (had never seen that before). Anyway, the 8 really is a great handling car.

I will make this one easy for you guys. You put a capable driver in both of these cars while still stock, the C6 will rape the Rx8. And this is comming from a true rotor head.

I wouldnt say rape but it would beat it handily.

I would love to drive Road America. I have driven it on a sim on my PC and it is an awesome track - probably one of the best in the country but it is quite a drive from Atlanta.

TrackAddict,

How long have you been tracking for? BTW, great driving and videos .

There's no doubt an RX8 will be beaten by a more powerful car. I have seen numerous videos and in most cases the RX8 can hold its own in the twisty bits against far more exotic machineries. Now, you can't really compare a large capacity V8 against a puny 1.3 litre rotary. However, for a NA 1.3 displacement motor... it ain't that bad. If I had the same track driving talent as TrackAddict, I'd probably just be content knowing that I can pretty much keep up with cars that have 4 times the engine capacity, 2.5 times the engine torque. So, for a 1.3 litre displacement... the RX8 does very well on track and comfortable at the same time.

TrackAddict I just noticed that you post these videos all the time exclusively in the SE Forum for your ATL brethren. Now you can have fans all across the nation. Guess it was only a matter of time before someone let the cat out of the bag.

Thanks for the invitation. For grins I did a mapquest. looks like about 890 miles for my neck of the woods to yours.
Last March Charles Hill drove down to hang with the Georgia group and run Road Atlanta. We had a great time. If you can make the drive, please come and join us yourself. We currently have 9 RX8s signed up for the March 18/19 NASA event at Road Atlanta. We are a very active bunch. Next Saturday we have our own private track day at Talladega Grand Prix Raceway. For insurance purposes we have limited registration to 10 cars. Gonna be fun. Stop&TurnFreak arranged it for us. He has a modded EVO8, lives in NC but is still one of the GARX8Club group.
So, if you want to go to the track with a bunch of likeminded RX8 folks, come on down to Georgia.

Corvette vs RX-8,

Both can beat the other, it just depends on what kind of track.

First, let me say what a priviliedge it has been working/learning from the GA club. When you own an Evo, it is like going to the prom with a Herpes sore on your mouth, no one wants to hang with you. However, these guys embraced the oddity which is me and my car.

You won't find a nicer group of guys anywhere. As for TA, he is a track prodigy if I have ever seen one. You are going to see some great stuff from him this year, he is an asset to his group, and a true pleasure to work/drive with at the track. I learn as much from him as, he from me.

////No on-topic.

Guys, don't sell the RX8 short. Having raced/instructed for 15 years (ok, I am getting old), I can tell you the track plays a HUGE role in determining the winner. At a track like TGPR, a vette and RX8 would be closely matched, due to the lack of long straight aways, and the LONG constant radius corners. Long corners mean LOTS of throttle manipulation, and Vettes tend to spin in this deleicate balance. A spinning tire, represents NO acceleration. The RX8 does constant radius corners great, and it can put the power down.

I give you a prime example. In 2003, I was asked by SVTOA to come instruct there SVT club from GA. I had just sold my Mustang, but they, like you guys, are very cool, and invited me down. Now, the instructor group consisted of two race prepped Cobra R's (93 and 2000) and several track-prepped (gutted interior, mods, and slicks) in my group. I was in a full weight Evo making just over 195whp(bad BOV). Now, you would assume, my Evo when compared with the 390whp stock Cobras and the higher race prepped Cobras would be a rolling chicane, um no, in fact, the three fastest cars *in this order was, 93 Cobra R (295/35 slicks), me , and a prepped Focus SVT. The course was the patriot course at VIR, which if you look at the layout has very few straight aways.

So, it basically boils down to this, we are all limited to the grip. Physics is fun . Also, one other point, just challenge any vette owner at a big track to a long race, the brakes will be gone (if they drive 95% or more) in about 3 or 4 laps.

Aww - give me a hug Seriously dude I appreciate the kind words and coming from you they mean a lot. '06 is going to be a great year and I look forward to progressing through the NASA organization. Maybe at some point I can instruct and hence afford to run with other clubs as well like you do.

I find it interesting what you said about high HP cars with their ability to run a full session at speed. That would explain why I see those guys braking earlier and earlier as the sessions progress and why they leave me out of the pits but I am on their *** by the time we take the checkered flag.
