If it's tuned properly, it will not happen much, if at all. Some people ask that it keeps blowing flames.

I got tired of people driving by and screaming that my muffler was on fire, or getting out of their car and knocking on my window about it.

Yea I imagine that would get annoying after a while. Pat's car really richened up on the decel I saw so I take it that if you're running rich normally you'll be more likely to spit flames on sudden let up of the gas.
