If it happened more than once you could always have the bumper custom made with heat shields near the pipes. I doubt the bumper would suffer any from that though. Its directed away from the vehicle at a significant velocity so that in combination with the vehicle's forward motion would keep most of the heat away from it. Or so I would think.

exactly. basically whenever you shift, and engine brake.

ps: Don't worry about melting your bumpers. I've been shooting 3+ foot long flames for a while, without any issue. And on engine braking a lazy blue flame can flow out and lick upwards across the rear bumper. No damage.

the only damage I've had, was from the right side of my borla exhaust being a bit too close to the exhaust shroud. It's a bit rough to the touch on the underside (can't see it though). And as we all know, the shroud is replaceable for about $40-60.

Actually it comes in handy. When I was on nitrous my cousin alway tailgated me. Did a downshift and tried to leave him but his evo was equally fast. Luckily shifting to thrid shot a flame so high I saw it in my rearview and since then he never tailgated me while I was on the bottle again. =)

Also I've noticed red flames being lil popping ones. Blue ones are 3+ ft or higher and on the bottle its purple flames mixed with blue and red!!!(might just be a coincedence.) But purple flames look awesome!!

the dyno nubers weren't what they should've been. She dyno'd at 250 down at pettit after she got the SC on, but she only dyno'd at 199 yesterday.

the int-x has a function for this and you can turn it down.

i know the car is running a little rich......lookin at the A/F.....since i put the midpipe on....it never smelled before....

i checked the coils about 3 weeks ago and they looked fine....my plugs may need to be replaced....

the dyno results were a little surprising since she feels fine when driving except for a couple of minor things like idle....

i do have a different tune on her now, different than what was on the car from pettit...although to be more specific....

MY CAR WAS NOT RETUNED.....the new tune came from someone elses car so its not a tune specifically for my car...

im just gonna monitor my coils and plugs till the flash is available for me...
which will be soon..

:D

PS...the flames dont occur that much, so im not too worried about that

sounds like you should go back to the previous map, then watch the AFR to see if it goes too lean anywhere. If not, don't put up with the map you currently have.

Bing Bing Bing - im willing to bet thats what it is. NEVER EVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER is it a good idea to use someone elses map, unless its just for a baseline before beginning a tuning sesssion.

Microtech can tune decel - There should be no reason for flames like that.
Map from another car - which appears to be running excessively rich.
Midpipe won't cause a dramatic change to your A/F.
250 to 199 WHP (DRAMATIC DIFFERENCE).

As posted above...
Pat, i would suggest going back to the original map and monitor your A/F. In order to do that though - you need to know what the target A/F was on the original tune. Im sure you can call Petit and get that. Let them know what your new A/F is, and take their advice from there.

If your A/F is running dangerously higher (which i highly doubt from just a cat), just put your cat back on and wait till you can get the car professionally tuned again before putting the midpipe back on. The midpipe is supposed to add power - not blow a motor. Oh and also, running that rich is almost as suicidal for your motor as it is to run lean. Sure flames are pretty - but a dead motor isnt.

Before you call Petit, it would be a good idea to scan and email them your dyno sheet. Based on the power plot, alongside the A/F plot - they can get some good info.

just my 2 cents. good luck.

Damn were you trying to race on the dyno?

199? Something is seriously wrong. Thats 10 hp less than my N/A car. Go back to your old map ASAP.

maybe the numbers are off because they didn't drive the car properly on the dyno.

A-Ive never seen anyone "launch" on a dyno like that and chirp the tires when shifting. Anytime ive been on the dyno i get the tires rolling slowly and easily work it through the gears to whatever gear i am doing the run in. This is how every other dyno run i've seen done has been performed. Never seen anyone "launch" and hammer through the gears on the dyno like that.

B - I know thats 15more than the average NA car. But go back and REREAD my post - said it was 10 less than MY car which IS NA.

let me clear it up for everyone..

you can do a 1/4 mi on a mustang dyno....
thats what you saw in the video...my 1/4 mi...hense, the launch and chirp..

secondly, on a mustang dyno your whp will average approx 15 less whp than a dynoject...thats just how it reads...it doesnt mean your car is slower...it just means that if you take the SAME car and dyno it on a dyno jet you might get 185 but on a mustang dyno it would probably be closer to 170..

so, the answer to your question is ...NO..your NA car does not have more WHP than mine......totally impossible..

I know you CAN do a 1/4 run on a dyno, doesn't mean its the best idea.
An example why:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyK4HTk_Efg

Not "totally impossible", but I didn't see anyone mention it was a mustang. That does clear things up a bit.
