Wink It was a filter

It was a filter. First I adjusted color and contrast, then blindly happened upon this filter that asked me whether I wanted aluminum or plastic, or something like that; I can't remember the general purpose of it or the name, though. It was on a machine at work and I'm not there now, but I will try to find it again tomorrow before I go on vacation for two weeks. I think it was something odd, and not a standard photoshop thing.

Stackhouse: I like the three on the left the best; I'd say my favorite is the far left, then the one next to it, then the one after that. I'd love to learn what the filters were.

The far left is a standard Photoshop filter: Poster Edges. First I did auto-levels, then these settings.... on a Mac. I haven't tested the PC yet, but when i searched for it last night it wasn't obvious. Maybe the defaults were too far different.

The second isAuto Levels plus Flaming Pear's Zephyr plug-in. Zephyr has no controls, but it can be re-applied.

The third is a combination that I cannot exactly reproduce, owing to extreme experimentation at the time. But, it seems to be a combination of Auto Levels, Motion Blur (to widen the seams without darkening them), Smudge Stick (to accentuate the colors), and Sprayed Strokes to make it a bit drippy. These are all standard Photoshop.

Cool Yellow

Hey, Pete,

Cool yellow. I like the "newer" pic with the glistening sun and the yard fences. Poised to roll!

Thumbs up Photo data?

Great photos, guys!!
Especially, Nick, dmp, and Whitehot. I admire your aesthetic talent, but can you tell me the shooting data, like exposures, shutter speeds, and what kind of camera? Of course, I know it depends on the lighting conditions, etc.

Usually I use my Pentax MZ-5n SLR, with a 28-90mm lens, but this time I wanted quick results so I used my sister's 4mp digital camera... All of the shots were taken with -1.5 exposure adjustment. They looked alright on the back of the camera, but on both my parent's desktop and my work desktop they were pretty dark. My laptop showed them well, but it's screen has a super-high brightness. They turned out fine after adjusting them in Photoshop, but next time I'd probably go with -1.0 instead. I usually shoot -1.0 on my Pentax as well. Some shots I took with that camera are at https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/welcoming-myself-board-pics-47661/ and all were on -1.0 exposure.

Mr. Simple - very lovely shots. I love the first 2 especially. And I agree with Kochan - you all have an excellent eye for beautiful shots. I am simply in awe. Really - I'd buy a calendar with shots like these in a freakin heartbeat.

Hmmmm, my shots came off a cheap 2mp kodak digital camera. On the "auto" setting. I can take tons of pictures and just pick out the good ones. One of these days I will get a better camera.

The sun shine and sky in Hawaii is the greatest gift for you. Nevertheless, I like your night shot. Its like a still pic of GT4.

Thanks for the info, Nick. I like the third pic which was taken around sun down or dawn with the side lighting. 4mpx must be more than enough as long as using tripod.

No offense, Stackhouse. :o
Your Photoshop technique is great. The "ZIPPORX Himself...." photo looks nice. It is too small to tell how nice, but the backdrop looks like a studio shot.

ZippoRx is a studio shot, shamelessly ripped from the MazdaUSA.com site. When I registered my RX it came up with this cute thumb of the larger studio stuff. Looks just like mine, though. At first I thought they had a picture of the exact spec model, but no. BTW, if anyone is interested, I can get into the Ford/Mazda Media site where they have about 40 or so pro RX shots -- usually too large to post but I can optimize them. Lots of colors.

Ane now this :
