WTF....I ran a 12.7 @ 122 with a horrible 8.9 sec on the 1/8th due to me bogging the car off the line horribly...This was on the half bridge Renesis with the PT71GTQ @19psi

I'll try to get a video from my friend Dennis, he recorded on a flick.

Regardless, way to go guys, the car looks great and for those who like V8's this is great. Congrats!

Best regards,

Chris

I looked through this whole thread (quickly) and didn't see any prices. So here's my question...

For someone considering a engine swap, what is the comparison between doing a LS1 swap and a 20B swap? Beyond the obvious different of rotory power vs. V8 power... price difference? Difficulty? Etc.

From what I have seen on a here a good 20B swap can run you up to $30k. Seams like a LS1 would be significantly cheaper. True?

Should be much cheaper. For one I know the LS1 is easier to find since it or the LS2 are all over current model cars or junkyards where as I've never seen a 20B except on websites. As far and installing it goes I'm not sure but I would think you could find someone to do it for a couple thousand.

Guys,

I started this thread regarding the effects of the LSx swap to handling and I thought you all would find it interesting. There is no real science discussed only speculation at this point but if anyone could provide real world experience or actual physics to back up any claims positive or negative that would be awesome! It could eventually clear up any misconceptions about the swap including actual weights of the motors ETC.

For instance did you all know that the 20B swap is 70lbs heavier then a LS1 swap? I was shocked!

Anyways...Check it out...

I thought you all would like to know...

http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/s-942...3-present.aspx

"Update 7/28/10: We have complete the car with the exception of the cooling system. We received the radiator core, and we're designing the installation now. At this point, we are planning to have pricing, pictures, and video shortly. Give us another two weeks to road test the car and complete the project. We are looking forward to releasing the products.

The 1 7/8" stainless steel headers and 3" y-pipes are now in stock. They were custom built for the application, and they are required for the build. They meet the factory exhaust system behind the transmission for an easy installation. "

Talking Finally Thank you Hinson Super Cars!!!!

I was confused on what to do with my 2004 rx8.To me its the sexyiest car inside and out without a doubt but I wanted a reliable engine with good mpg and some ***** to get that turbo spooling.I can't afford to be buying rotary engines over and over.I was gonna get the emersil turbo that cost like 6,000.00 or get a 20b for15,000 but after alot of research it only makes sense to swap a ls1 or ls2 especially since Hinson Super Cars stepped up to the plate with all the parts you need. They are gonna make alot of money and they can't wait! There gonna have more pics and a video comeing out soon!Im excited as Im sure alot of rx8 owners are!Now we can have the best of both worlds in handling and power, a true batmobile for the win!As the saying goes "sometimes you got to do it yourself if you want it done right"!Perfection at last! And I'll take that over a corvette or gto anyday! There is hope out there! Now its all about the benjamins!!

If you look at the prices at Hinson for the FD LS1 kit, this could actually be a "relatively" cheap swap. The prices look damn reasonable. Hell, I'd have to pay that much for a decent set of mass produced 1 3/4" headers for my LS2. I'm not saying the swap is going to be inexpensive, but with a kit, you'll take some of the angst and cost out about having to custom fabricate everything. I'd like to see what they're doing about wiring.

I'm looking forward to hearing what the first RX8club member says about the process of doing this swap using the kit. I'm hopeful, but reserved at this point. We've seen a couple of well executed custom projects, but the proof is when the possibility of doing this swap is available to a bigger market.

If the guys from Iceland want make a kit, great!

Well the swap is pretty cool nicely done. Im a big fan of V8's but what made you decide to use the LS and not swap say a 20b?? I mean the whole point of having a rotary in my opinion is to be different and the V8 doesnt give you that. Just my thoughts.

This mod is about getting the most for your money. We all love the 20b but the parts and availability are non existent in comparison. If I do this swap I'll be making several exhaust settups to try and get a unique non-v8 sound. I'll also build the motor to rev as high as possible =)

It is true that the procurment of parts can be a little bit difficult but I do belive it to be a worth while endevor but Im a little bit of a purest. However I do think for those that want to swap a V8 into the Rx8 that a Ford 5 liter mated to the Ford T56 would be a better match as at least there is some manufacture cominality with respect to Ford owning a portion of Mazda. Other than that its a pretty hot swap and even I wouldnt mind having one.
