Ah... it's not my idea... custom bike shops have been doin' it for awhile.
I just thought about applying it to the 8.... been farting around with the idea making a mirror that's relatively simular to the MS mirrors in Japan ('cept flipped for NA).. was going to try and integrate that style of light into the corners. Or who knows.. maybe just something completely different... doesn't really matter now... the temps are getting too cold to really get into starting up a project now.. le sigh.

Nmmmmmm.... I guess it kinda depends on how you were planning on reproducing the parts... and out of which material. Really all you'd need would be to have the space cut out of the part, place a plastic or alum plug in there, then coat with epoxy / tinted clear coat, let cure and remove the plug. Window created.
Or if you're really lazy... just make a clear plastic plug and place a tint film over it.

haha.. that's if I had a garage or a basement! I live in a condo... and try as I might.. I can't bring myself to work on that stuff in my condo.. I'll be working with foam.. and even though epoxy has a very low odor.. it still smells.. so I'd have to leave it on my balcany to cure with all the other crap that's blowing around up there.
Right now I'm using a dealership to play around and test... I still have to finish my console liner overlays before the temp goes below 20. If I have time I'll make acouple of CF mirror covers for the time being and work on some of my idea's over the winter in Alibre (just got that last week.. woot).

You should see how small the room I work in is,,, I live in a condo too, I just made sure I built myself a small hobby room in the basement,,,

How good is apoxie for making layers\sheets? Like your front diffuser (i know i'm being repetitive!).
I just stripped my car and might want to look into a cleaner look for the back missing seats!

The poossibilites are endless, I've actually done similar etchings on acrylic sheets with LED's, but the metallic surface seems way sexier than a translucent acrylic sheet

awesome stuff man...I'm excited to see it all together. All great work, but I think my favorite is the mirror so far.
An easy way to make flat sheets is to lay up carbon fiber on a flat sheet of aluminum (not aluminum foil!) that has had release applied to it. comes out perfectly flat and the side of the carbon against the aluminum is perfectly smooth (assuming the aluminum is smooth).
Or like Greg said out of lexan...mcmaster-carr sells all sizes and thickness of plastic sheets up to 54''x64''

. Honestly... since I got the 8... the biggest thing I want is a garage... I don't really care about the house aspect... but.. just some place I car work on my car / parts.. lolI think Rotr8's got the right idea... buy some prefabed CF and just cut to shape... if you're really interested in working with CF and are most likely going to try making other things.. then by all means... but pleeeasse be sure to do your research and ensure you have all the right knowledge / safety equipment (specially if you're going to use epoxy).
Rotr8... I'm gonna guess the diffuser is more for show correct? From the image it would look pretty good.. the only thing I'd say is that the back of the thing drops pretty low... and you might have some nasty scraping if you're going up onto a steep driveway or over a speedbump with anything in the truck

Guess i'm going to try CF then. 120€\squared meter but should be well worth it. I thought about apoxie and not fiberglass because of the many curves and angles i would have to cover. Guess i'll just make a panel screwed to the back and leave some ugliness!

Well I do have a contact that can get me access to a wind tunnel
Its a work in progress and I do want to make it as low as possible without compromising access to slightly steep roads and driveways. But as of now I usually find ways around those types of roads anyway out of fear of damaging my front bumper,,,
