People tend to vandalize cars whose owner they suspect to be a jackass. I live in a college town and park in the closest open spot at the grocery store like everyone else and my car is fine. Same with the car I used to drive.

i had a guy park so close next to me i couldnt get out. And i had just parked.. i was still in the car. I rolled down my window and said "excuse me". The nice gentle man responded with "**** you".

I very calmly backed out and parked a few spots down. I then opened my hatchback, i was driving a civic at the time, and opened up my flight box. I was heavy into RC planes at that time. I took out my 5 min epoxy and a mixing stick. I mixed up a small portion, cracked the stick in half.. and jammed those halves into both door locks on his car.

I think I've been so lucky when it comes to parking. I take all the standard precautions without taking up 2 spots or anything jerky like that. And so far no one has bothered Chun-Li at all. Even at Wal-Mart (of all places) I haven't had anyone park against my doors. I would say it's rotor magnet though, it seems at least once a week another RX7 or 8 owner parks near me .

Industrial plastic wrap is one thing, I carry a knife and would have it off in two minutes. EPOXY in DOOR LOCKS is destruction of property.

Jus sayin though that parking away from other cars just makes people think you're a jackass.

I'm a jackass because I don't want my **** dinged up?

In 100,000 miles I have two door dings, I am very proud of that. It's not a cost issue it's a respect issue. Seriously if anyone purposely parked next to me that close (like the pic of the van) on purpose some violence would ensue. It's no different then someone shitting in your front yard or spray painting the side of your house. Some people take care of the stuff they pay for, some don't. But I'm not gonna walk into your house and slam the door behind me. That would be rude and disrespectful.

I don't know about you but I'm a nice unassuming guy but if you disrespect me then we will have a talk. I might get my *** kicked, I might not. But you will definitely think twice about being disrespectful to me again.

Agreed, destruction of property is a bit extreme, however that being said, if you are going to pull the legal card, then someone who aggressively parks next to you blocking you in your car could legally, by the letter of the law (in most jurisdictions) be charged with simple assault at best, depending on the specific jurisdiction you are in and how the law is spelled out. Because legally, it is making a deliberate action which is exerting a level of force over someone else preventing them from their intended course of action.

...and their doors slamming into yours is just as destructive.

right before i got my car painted i came out of stop and shop, side note can we start a thread about how awesome red box is? anyway. i came out of the store to see a woman with her door up against mine trying to get her child into the car seat and constantly pushing her *** up against the inside of her door which is making it bounce off of my car repeatedly. now mind you if the child was older and of an impressionable age i would have refrained until she had shut her door but the child was simply a few months old and barely in the "baby einstein" age yet. certainly will be more negatively affected growing up amungst ignorance and indifference in the household in which God has chosen for it. anyway since i lack the proverbeal "bleeding heart" of compassion with ignorance, i spoke up. I'll paraphrase.

me "excuse me kind woman, but it appears as though you are scratching and denting my vehicle in an attempt to put your lovely future harvard business graduate into her carseat."

lady " oh it appears as though you are correct, please let me take full responsability for my actions and give you my contact information as i am clearly in the wrong and was unaware as to the door reaching your vehilce in which i parked a smidge too close too"

me " pish posh, the vehicle in which you are bombarding with scratches and dents will be undergoing some repainting from the conclusion of an earlier incident and will be adjusted without your future needed involvement, plus it was only wounded as a result of you being such a wonderful, care giving mother and i couldn't in good conscience hold you responsible"

it may have gone down a "smidge" differently but you get the point. i may have said a poorly chosen word or too.

i honestly wish i had video, there was a crowd that had formed and when she got into her car, it was like a scene in a movie when the high school mean girl gets called out at the end of the movie by the ever neglected student body and is run out of the prom crying. and some guy pointed at her and said " YEAH" really loud. it was hillarious

lol, I do this on purpose...... fun to make people wonder wtf.....I do it because I know darn well the other person probably cares about their car more than anything. Gives them something to worry about

mind you don't park really close and I certainly make sure I don't touch the car with anything.

Least at work, I get a spot in the garage where absolutely no one can ding the car or block it from any side. it's like a magic spot.

If everyone cared for the value and appearance of their property the way we do, then we wouldn't feel a need to try to protect it from the ignorant, jealous, or jackass people parking in the same lot. We aren't going to 'worry' about our cars just because you parked next to us. We are simply trying to protect something we care about, that even on a simple base level is a large financial investment.

WHY wouldn't you do the same?

I like it when people with expensive cars park next to me, because I know they will be careful around my car. That is all I ask. If you want to beat up some door panels, do it to your own car.

I can't fathom a mindset which would encourage me to take actions specifically to cause pain, discomfort, or loss to anyone without any other purpose other than their own personal humor... and am saddened that someone who is willing to do so is on the boards with us.

I feel everyone's pain believe me I do..

But being paralyzed has some advantages, cuz you get one of these

I park in these spots even sitting on these 4 wheels too

But even with the wider spots for handicapped there are still people that just same to park between these l l .......... Honestly I have had to take a small amount of aggression out on other peoples vehicles in order to get into mine. Once or twice. Bottom line people are to involved with themselves to care to think of others and others possessions.
