I dont even understand how one can think it has better handling over stock height.. Even someone who actually did cut the springs said it felt much better than stock... I guess I'd have to drive it to know

It's wishful thinking. It's similar to a butt dyno result after you spent $350.00 on an intake. You have to convince yourself it was a good idea.

Well, not if it's hooked to a turbocharger or supercharger

how will a search help? thats like searching what the best oil to use is.. the best way to learn about something is to test it yourself. and yes, too dumb to search anyways

Reading, thinking, trying, datalogging, breaking... again and again.
Or... Accept the average results after a search

Are you talking about me? Are you one of the haters now? You guys just keep hatin', i don't really mind. To each, his own.

It's fun to drive when it's lowered than being stock.

you cut your springs?

no, im referring to this one thread not too horribly long ago where a guy was flamed for cutting his springs.. and he claimed it "drove better". now i've never driven a slammed car before, or cut springs, or anything else like that, but from what I read.. cut springs isnt the way to go

and i forgot what thread it was in, but someone told you to go save the guy who bought 20 inch rims in the S2 section? look what i did lolol https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...3&postcount=42

Yes, i cut the springs, i will admit that. They could call me chopped springs douche, spring cutting idiot, or whatever they wanna call me, but for myself, i like it better than being stock and it's fun to drive it slammed.

To each, his own... don't hate or i'll be pissed

See what we're saying? Now please stop bringing your post count up as your comments are just a waste of web space.
And btw you're running on cut springs, not on a slammed car. Call me an idiot but i'd rather have my beloved ohlins than hanging around on cut springs.

excellent thread, thank you very much. but after reading that thread.. depending on how much he cut off.. that could be the proving point in whether hes a chopped spring douche or not

Even cutting half a coil kills the spring's ability to do its job properly. It's not just about the shorter height, it's about the modified spring rate and silly resonances that you're getting.
Of course some drivers won't even notice that

I suggest you take up a course in physics as well as dynamic forces an spring engineering. You will learn a lot.

Spring design specs are relative to their length and the number of coils contained within that length. Springs are generally wound up when they are annealed and then tempered to strengthen the material. Springs failure is usually an effect of when their tempering starts to degrade. Degradation of a spring will cause its length to reduce as the coils become compressed, and the work forces become altered. Cutting coils can be harmful to the tempering points on a spring, especially if that spring uses localized tempering to strengthen more areas of the spring compared to others. Generally non linear springs like stock automobile springs use greater tempering on the ends. When you cut springs you are killing off the most integral part of the non linear assembly, which will cause the spring to form stress fractures over time, and crack. Not to mention that you have now exposed the cut end of the spring to oxidization which will again affect the working molecules and affect the tinsel strength of the metal.

no prob bro. you like that visitor message i left you? lololol

and as much as i love school, i am DONE. 19 with a full time job, i can learn stuff on the internets all day. oh, and if i took Physics in high school.. i would have gotten the gay pedo teacher.. touched a girls butt in my Chemistry class.. that was a fun sophomore year.. haha. also Gran Turismo 5 helps me learn about suspension a lot. for example.. you cant just drop it the ride height without stiffening the spring rate, otherwise you'll just ride on the body..
