I know that #4 was out of focus, but the rest are pretty sharp in terms of the main subject - the 8. Are you referring to the blur of the background? If so, that's because I was using the maximum aperture setting of 1.4 which blurs out the background but allows the most light in.

i like the last picture the best, you need some practice with aperture / focus settings.. but otherwise looks good!

If you keep getting poor results, you can always take the pic with no blurryness and then take it into photoshop and with the blur tool, fake it till you make it.

I dont really edit photos often, but this just took me a quick minute. Someone who knows how to edit photos well can make even a shitty picture look amazing. What i just did is crap compared to people who do it often.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I wasn't necessarily going for "bokeh." I just wanted the best possible low light performance by using the maximum aperture. Maybe that's not the best approach?

i dont know, its been a few years since i messed with photography.. I couldnt afford a nice camera and my camera on my phone is more convient so i just stopped..

BUT... what i used to do in high school when i was first starting(b&w film) is to take 5 pictures of the same thing except with different settings, i whipped out a memo pad and wrote everything down in order to not duplicate and to track which settings worked.

digitally you can do the same but you arent limited by the amount of bracketing shots.

ALMOST FORGOT... A TRIPOD will eliminate a lot of the blurriness especially when the shutter speed is longer to account for less light.
