I suppose that makes sense... in slipery conditions there will be much less weight transfer forward. And the static bias on the rx8 will probably try to kick the back end out if its combined with engine braking.

Toyo T1R might last you that long, if you are nice to them, a couple of our locals have gotten the new Kumho Ecsta AST and like them. the Kumho MX if treated nicely can last 18k-20K miles. Anything with a higher TW rating than 300 will be a little harder and not provide as much grip, the Toyo Proxes 4 is a decent tire, I had them on my 1997 Honda Prelude, and they did pretty good. I think I got about 24k out of them, and drove that car pretty hard, pretty much all the time.
