but, i HATE it when people get on this website and generalize. i can honestly tell you that if my parents did not think i could handle a car like the 8, they would not have bought it for me. i have 2 of the most paranoid, conservative parents on the planet and i was extremely shocked when they actually did buy me the car of my dreams in the RX8. i thought i would be driving some huge lifted silverado or something. but, they trusted me with it and so far i have done great. plenty of my friends have SUVs and trucks and they get speeding tickets all the time and get in wrecks frequently. just because some kid like me drives this car does not mean that they cannot handle it. i admit, i sometimes drive this car like a granny, but i really don't care. i would also guess that i drive "better" or more conservatively than 90% of the people on here.

i agree that most teenage drivers lack experience, but that is never going to change no matter if you make the driving age up 30 years old. whenever someone just starts doing something, you aren't going to be as good at it as if you have been doing it everyday for 20+ years.

and for the people saying to take an advanced driving class... thats just an unrealistic suggestion in my opinion. i know this is hard to believe for some people on this board, but there are plenty of people in the world that did not go to the track to learn how to drive. i know thats surprising, but its the truth. the only thing that can fix this problem is more experience and that just comes with time.

don't hate on this kid. if your parents wanted to buy you a $25k car, you would not have objected, even if you knew you couldn't handle it. and its obvious this kid is no tool that was just asking for trouble. he could have been driving any car. he just happened to be in a sports car.
+1
My parents are exactly the same and I have been a safe driver ever since I got my 8. Many of my friends have gotten tickets, but I am responsible, so I haven't gotten any or have gotten in an accident either.

Ivory8... Hopefully you learn from this mistake and it never happens again. Next time, you might not be so lucky to be able to get a brand new car.

I do have to say a couple of things about generalizing and sterotyping. Generally 16 to 25 yearold boys, are the worst drivers on the road. That is a fact. You get pigeon holed as a bad driver because of the 16-25 yearolds that came before you. It is not some big marketing campaign out to get you. If you don't fit into that category, then don't take offence to the statements. If you do drive like an 16 to 25 yearold and are getting tickets and crashing your car, then you really need to look at your driving skill and make the changes. Getting help or changing cars is not a bad thing. Don't let your ego get the best of you.

i think you pretty much missed what i was trying to say. i just spent that whole time explaining why stereotyping me and other kids that drive the way i do as typical 16-25 year old male drivers was wrong. then, you come back and say not to let my ego get the best of me? doesn't really add up. if i was one of those kids with the "ego" that you speak of, i wouldn't be one of the safe 16-25 year male drivers on the road. me having my "ego" about 16-25 year old male drivers and me being a safe driver do not go together.

i see what you are saying, and there are numbers to prove your theory. all i'm saying is that there are exceptions to the rule.

Read the 6th sentence.... This does not apply to those who drive safely... Most 16-25 yearolds don't... Don't get me wrong I was 16 many years ago and crashed my fair share... My parents bought me a 1990 Saleen Mustang when I was 16. Needless to say it ended up going through a brick wall and stopping in some very nice peoples backyard. When I started to pay my own bills, I couldn't afford to drive like a crazy person.

ok, so your comments were irrelevant due to that fact that he was not driving wrecklessly and is one of those safe 16-25 year old drivers.

and a saleen sounds fun.

Yikes not driving recklessly???? 78 mph in a residential area is not reckless??? You don't slide your car and roll it on its side at 35 mph. I haven't seen a three or four lane road in a residential neighbor hood. So how and why was he in her blind spot if he was not passing her? Why would she be turning left into a undeveloped dirt lot? Put the story together and you will see the story.

I can see what you guys are saying...because otherwise the only way my car could flip is to be airborne. the car was not airborne...if u went sideways over a 2 foot fall the car would be close to going onto its side. but after spinning i was probably still going 15-25 mph, and going that fast over a 2 foot drop would most definitely turn the car laterally. ill fix the first paragraph...

Read that mx193.
She merged into his lane im guessing. Not seeing him. Read some of his previous posts.

Yes I have read it. What residential area has a three lane road? There is none and that is the only way she could have merged into his lane. He was passing her and lost control and like I said the out come is not a 35 mph crash.

Enough is enough... We can agree to disagree... You have your view and I have mine... I am thankful that Jordan didn't get hurt and he is ok. Have a great and safe holiday...

Speaking from my experience as a police officer with nearly 30 years experience of pulling people, including teenagers out of wrecks, an RX-8 is not the right vehicle for a newly licensed teenager.

This car is too much for any new driver, and before you get back behind the wheel I would also recommend taking an advanced driving course.

I'm not going to comment on the amount of damage and the speed you were travelling, but I will say you're very lucky no-one else got hurt.

All parents should leave their money in their wallet and apply some common sense before considering giving their child a high performance motor vehicle.
Yes yes and yes. I cant believe some of these parents these days. There is no need for a 16 year old kid to be driving a sports car, period.

ok, this is best i can put it....this accident happened in anthem which is a HUGE place with lots of lanes of road. the reason why it flipped on its side was because the difference in elevation from street to dirt helped flip the car on its side. do you think that if i was going 78 mph i would only have 1 side of the car destroyed??? the pure weight of the car crumpled the panels. here ill make a diagram for you guys.

Pretty neat diagram. I would take the 27k and buy a nice used rx-8 with low miles, or in your case a fwd rsx-s and spend a good chunk of the 10k left over on nice mods or insurance.

yea.. quite simple jordan.. you apply the law of physics .. i could be going 10 mph and flip over by driving lateral into that 2 foot drop.. its certainly not a 4x4.. and its not rocket science..

maybe if you were the Hoff with a KIT car.. you could of pressed a special OH ****!! button.. lol

Were the police called to this? The way I read it, Unit 1 (the white car) changed lanes when unsafe to do so.

An unsafe lane change means someone causes another car to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The other vehicle should have signalled well in advance, (usually 3 seconds) made sure the lane was clear and crossed over only if it was safe to do so.

An unsafe situation presented itself and as a result of their actions, you are left without a car. I hope you get back on the road as soon as you can....

I believe that's generally the case. I also believe this young man doesn't fit the stereotype.

Without meeting Jordan, I also have a feeling we have a level headed and sensible person out there.

I don't doubt there are other exceptions to the rule...but they are in the minority.....

cant believe this thread is still going, if you are going to post about your accident, say you are young and inexperianced expect to get flamed. and there are people who like to tell it how it is. why make a thread about this anyway?

he wasn't going 78 mph. i am just going by what he said and until he says that the story that he gave wasn't the true story, i am going to back him up. but i agree to disagree too. and when im old and "wiser" someday, i may be saying the same things as you right now.

I like that idea better. An RX8 isn't exactly a high performance vehicle. The fact that it handles better than most cars should be a benefit -- even to a new driver. So, I think it's a better choice than, say, a Mustang. Still, there are many better choices.

Regardless of what car it is, I think someone who gives a $20K+ car to a driver with minimal driving experience has more money than sense.

personally i expected to get flamed, and thats why i didnt respond to the flaming. the only thing i responded to was when people suspected the story a different way than it really happened. People can say that i shouldn't be driving this car blah blah but i really dgaf. I just posted this on the forum just like anyone els that got into a crash has. and like ive said in another post, i made this thread to talk about the situation because when i talk about my problems it helps me get over them.
