I'm going to say this with all respect, because honestly for 16 years of age you handle yourself very well and act like an adult in most threads I've seen you post in, so this comes with that in mind- You can't handle an Evo/STi/etc.

It's just too much car. Honestly, the RX-8 is too much car for any new driver, I would have **** my pants if I had an RX-8 to start driving with.

Not to mention you should have your parents look up insurance rates for an Evo or STi for a 16 year old male already with an accident (don't know this will be at "at fault" or "not at fault" accident) with a car totaled on his insurance record. It will NOT be pretty, try 4 times as much as your 8's insurance. Those rally rockets are wadded up daily by kids that don't know how to drive them and race their friends.

I'm not saying you will race your friends or be stupid, because like I said before, you seem like have a good head on your shoulders, especially for being 16.

Just stuff to keep in mind

and now with an accident under your belt, those rates will be extreme. seriously, they will be horrible.

Yeah, even for me STi/Evo insurance rates are ridiculous. I should just marry my girlfriend so I can get my insurance rates cut in half

BTW Chet, where's my Blow-off valve?

I think, that's a bad idea.. You should have gone to the track to get more experience with your car, especially since you just got your license. I use to hang out with friends who owned EVO's, STi's, and SRT 4's, and all those cars would be too much for someone as unexperienced as you Jordan.. Changing up cars wouldn't make a difference how you drive, it's the experience that you have with cars in general. But, I hope everything works out for you bro..

Yeah, i definitely see what your saying...i was fortunate that i got an rx8 for my first car, very fortunate...and until i had this accident everything was running smooth. And the rx8 had the lowest insurance out of all the cars in its class reason being the 1.3 liter motor, 4 doors...so the insurance sees it as corolla status If it is listed as totaled, and i do get a check for a new car, most likely it would be an rx8 again...simply because it is a great car...low insurance cost (for what it is) and it has a very tasteful interior. Simply an amazing car, i'll probably be sticking with it but you never know what may happen. I'm estimating that my insurance premium will be about 450 after this accident. I'm thinking im going to apply for discount tire...starting 9.25 an hour...

ok now that things are done, what really happen??? I talked to an actual csi and he told me you were doing 78 mph give or take 1 mph. The skid marks and the non-90 degree curb does not flip a car at 35 mph. It does at 78+ mph. He does csi for the insurance industry and the state and is an expert in this kind of investigation work. So what is the skinny??? I am dieing to know.... Were you racing someone or going faster then you should????

^^ LOL Jason, you've seen my car and when I crashed I was doing over 100+ MPH, and I didn't even total it. Didn't even flip as a matter of fact, which I'm still dumb founded about it..

When I crashed, it was night time and I couldn't see how bad the damage was.. So, in the morning my dad called me and asked me what the heck happened to my 8? I told him, I backed up into a curve, but then he told me to go outside to look at the car and it didn't look like I backed up into a curve. So, I had to come somewhat clean about my story..

i dont feel like quoting everyone but how long did things go smooth, 7 months about, from the time i got my car to now

how fast was i going? what i said is not a lie 35 mph, but what i did not mention about the street was that after that non 90 degree curb i hit there is a 2 foot drop off before the dirt because it was an undeveloped construction area. I can see what you guys are saying...because otherwise the only way my car could flip is to be airborne. the car was not airborne...if u went sideways over a 2 foot fall the car would be close to going onto its side. but after spinning i was probably still going 15-25 mph, and going that fast over a 2 foot drop would most definitely turn the car laterally. ill fix the first paragraph...

for an update, the insurance company is giving us a 27k check...it is totaled, i was lucky enough to be let to snag my intake. the car we are ordering is from the same dealer i bought this 1. same exact car, its in Modesto California.

^thats a given. i am saying why would you buy your car seven months before you actually needed it? i had mine like 2 months so i could get used to a manual, but seven months? i still dont mean to be a jackass, i really dont, but after 13 days of driving on your own it kind of says something. i know it is your fault, or its not your fault, but your insurance must hate you right now...

just because u got yours 4 months after u got your permit doesnt mean i have to. And yes i did crash, and yes it is because i was inexperienced and didn't know how to handle the situation at hand. u say you don't mean to be a jackass but you weren't there and you didn't see it happen so, please...i didn't make this thread to get judged, but to talk about the situation, because sharing my problems with people helps me get over them. All i can sense from your writing is that you think im a kid who didn't respect what he had...and therefor it must be 100% his fault that he crashed it. So i would like it if you could accept the situation in front of you and to not question everything that doesn't seem "logical"

ait, who said I didn't think you appreciated what you have? I'm in the same position regarding being "young and more fortunate" but the gist of what I was saying is that you shouldn't get an sti or an evo, and it wasn't necessary to get ur 8 seven months in advance. Look, I know its hard for you, but sometimes it's necessary to be told the reality of what it looks like from the outside... Reconsider what I was saying now

k, well again...who are you to say that it isn't necessary, it was just the way my family worked...my brother got his car the day before he got his permit, i got mine a week after. Sure in that first 6 months the car had a lot of garage time but i definitely don't think there is any form of time to where it is necessary to get a car (not saying a year or more is feasible).

k but back on topic...about the evo/sti bit. My mom came to me and said, alright we are getting a check for 27xxx....are you sure you want to spend it on a rx8 again?? and it just got me thinking, after some people suggested that the insurance would be a lot higher on those cars rather than the rx8 (which is true) it became a realization that it would be impossible for me to get either of those cars. thats where that came from.

Sux dude. Take a Driving course with your local SCCA or other club. My Autocross experience has really helped me avoid accidents.

Since you are still learning to drive, I suggest you get something you don't mind wrecking. I seriously suggest a used PT Cruiser with manual transmission. If you must have more torque, then get the GT (the suspension is better too). Just about any other four-banger manual would be about as good. If you can keep that intact for a year or two, then trade it for something else. But watch out, the PT has a nasty blind spot too.
