Mazdamaniac video at NASA HPDE1
So here is a video from last night taken by Flashwing of Mazdamaniac on Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix. MM was doing the HPDE1 event.
As I said this is courtesy of Flashwing.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I loved the part about the mustang spinning out! I had one just like the one tailing you, and I traded it for my 8. Sent hubby the video..a reminder of how good we did! :

Point and fact, we were getting my car ready for a driving event which took place when he was doing HPDE. We were tracking down an oil leak and chipped a piece of a bolt on my oil temp/pressure adapters. The chip could have gone back into the oil system and into the motor...it was small but Jeff wasn't going to even chance it causing damage. It was about 20 to 30 minutes to get that little sucker but we got it.
I point a camera at Mazdamaniac and something funny is bound to happen.

Fun stuff. Todd does nice work.
Its funny how "compressed" time/speed gets on tape.
There are two shots of my compound turn 4/5 that look identical, but one is easily 15 MPH faster.
The end of the straight was 147 MPH the last time you see it, but only 120 the time before (better exit from the last two turns).

If it had to be a dead drag race from the start of the straight, he would have pulled on me. (Barely.)
That said, it can't corner and, more importantly, it cant brake, so even if he did get a length on me, I get to brake so deep that I'd go right by him at the carousel.
However, he screwed the pooch every time (as did most people) by going too shallow on the second to last turn and not setting themselves up for the final turn into the straight.
Time and time again, I came onto the straight 10 MPH or more over anything around me (turbo G35, Mustangs, Integra, etc.) and they couldn't make it up even if they had the power.
Which they didn't, anyway.
Next week will be interesting.
We are running the west course, which has a much shorter straight. HP will be even less of a factor, so the big iron will be at an even bigger disadvantage.
