Looking for pointers from Manual Transmission Guru's

Hey guys so first off here is my first attempt at a 0-60 run. NOTE - I DID THIS ON A CLOSED ROAD - I do not condone street racing at all.

Alright so here it is.

http://s732.photobucket.com/albums/w...=Video0006.flv

Now I know that DSC should be off but I was scared lol because I had to hold the camera with one hand.

I'm not the best shifter (speed wise) as you can see I only just passed the 750 mile mark on my first manual transmission vehicle.

Should I clutch dump a higher rpm? Didn't know what to try at first so kept it low around 3k.

Should I shift out of 1st sooner, I took it to 9,000 - 9,500 before shifting.

Thanks guys!

a few more revs on take off - around 5000 should be plenty - just enough to stop that bogging you saw once clutch was fully released . Ohterwise looked reasonable .

Yeah could be much faster, I timmed it and it looked to be around 7.5-7.9 seconds.

Yeah I should be able to get mid 6's and maybe when I'm decent at a stick low or flat 6's.

No where have I read this before, and regardless I have been red lining this thing since mile 5. Most manufacturers that actually require a break in are only 750 miles.

To answer your question - not really. There is a warranty for a reason.

Besides a car like this is a toy - use it or go buy a prius.

you should still take it easy on the car for the first oil change period at least.

RacingBeat also has some tip on the break in, and i m sure those guys run cars just as hard.

Sure there is warranty, but there is also tons of hassle goes along with it too.

Poor break-in = poor performance and loads of hassle as the previous poster said.
Especially considering on what the seals sit over in a rotary i'd recommend some accurate break-in.

Just wanted to inform you of what Mazda has to say about this in the owners manual, your new car did come with one??. Mazda has voided warranties for less.

Does everyone honestly baby their car that much to the point you don't even red line it on a 0-60 run?

I have never had a reason to do a clutch drop / 0-60 run, the RX-8 is not a drag car. But I have done a few hours of high RPM road course driving. The point people here are tying to make is redlining a RX-8 with only 5 miles on the engine doesn't bode well for the longevity of your trans or motor. Also posting in a public forum that Mazda employees have been known to read that your new to driving sticks, doing clutch drops and didn't follow break in procedures is something I wouldn't do.

Well based on current sales of 09 RX-8 it wouldn't be too hard to figure out which one of Paretti Mazda's customer you are

Would hardly hold up in court.
