Well spoke to shop today thats has installed nitrous on a few rx8 cars and they said they had a few cars in which they tune the piggy back for nitrous to find that the ecu in the car keep fighting it.i be taking my car to them in a few weeks to see what the deal is and what solution they have if any. I want to go with a 100 shot and see what happens. i have dynoed my car and right now I'm making 186 to the wheels.I'm hoping to dyno after the mod. i install and shot of nitrous over 250 yeah it probaly a long dreaM BUT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. good luck charles and keep us updated.

From a post by Canzoomer:
Some guidelines:
1) If you tune the car in the sections where it runs "closed loop" it will fight you.
Closed loop is when the car reads the O2 sensor and dynamically adjusts timing and AFR to maintain 14.7:1 AFR and "safe" timing.
2) Open loop happens above a certain rpm, and throttle postiion.
On a 6MT this happens above 70% throttle, and above certain rpms.
The rpm cut point is not consistent across the gears.
In 1st it makes the transition at about 6,200rpm
In 2nd this happens at 5,500
In 3rd and up it happens at 4,800
So, if you tune in 3rd, and all looks good, but you go below 2000rpm, then a few hard runs in 1st gear will cause the ECU to adjust it's long term fule trim richer by about 5+% and it defeats the tuning.
This is the cause of frustration to so many who say the unit does not work.

Charles, you mentioned earlier that you may shoot more video of your present set-up. Have you thought about that or have you been too busy making that black mamba scream.

- Shoot on MiniDV
- Cover microphone with foam to dampen crap noise and keep windows closed
- Firmly mount
- Two cameras would be awesome if you can pull it off, (A) front view, (B) Gages
- Shoot interior shots separate, like the two blue gages above the rear view mirror
- Turn on the camera to capture preliminary segments for a build up
- Shoot some of the activities surrounding the run
- Shoot some close-ups of installation; this is a good buildup for the video
- Keep camera running at the roadblock and for the take down. The blue lights may be a really neat effect but the audio will be good as well!
- Send me the MiniDV tape. Just in case the above note is in effect, have a pre-addressed and stamped envelope ready for a quick tape extraction from the cameras and stuff, lick and ask the cop to "Please mail this for me"! You may need to grip it tight with your teeth, as there may be a lot of thrashing around. :D
Sorry Charles, I couldn't resist!

:D. . . LOL, Yea, I can work with that. Obviously, everything's a production for me. I shoot for the ultimate and except what I get and usually come up with a satisfactory compromise. What people want to see is what you have to offer and I'm sure they wouldn't complain if it were 14 fps.

So what's it like to never break the rules or violate a traffic law, BigO?
Of course they would be flaming a 14 year-old for doing what I did. First, most states require an age of 16 before they will issue a driver's license and, two, a 40 year-old has far more experience than a mere teenager when it comes to risky behavior in any context. Safe situations only exist because we are able to manage the varying risks inherent to anything we do and hopefully being prepared for the risks we have overlooked. I think we place our lives in the hands of idiots every time we drive on streets loaded with people who have never pushed the limits in anything they do. I know my limits because of my delinquent juvenile history. That's why I have never been in a traffic accident where I was at fault.
Is this to excuse my violation of the law? No. Please accept my apologies, BigO.

i like how everyone who knows why he went to jail is only hinting to why he went and not actually saying it.
oh well... i dont really care. i just never enjoyed the promotion of street racing. I think that clip that was posted on here will only entice more imature drivers to go out and try that.
Anyways... i now see that he also road races. I will retract my street racer comment. I will not retract my beleifs on NOS and how it is the suck.

Charles has been one of the most technical contributors to this forum. Many have read every word he writes waiting to see his next test results. He pushes the envelope with his 8 and experiments doing things some of us would never think of doing to their car. He street races which I don't believe in but for some reason I have a strange respect for what he does. He is never totally satisified and will try something else to get another slight boost in HP. He's a great subject for video, which is why I made the one that started this thread and I look forward to the next one which he is going to send me raw footage to compile. He is the stuff movies are made from and I for one want him back with us and cain't wait for his first post.
My hero Lance Armstrong was a street racer also!
This is really confussing!
Coming Soon, in a thread nere you... Charles R. Hill! :D
