thanks for the responses, guess the plaque thing was mis-info , just like the difference in number of cars made, some websites were saying 3,000 cars were made !
another question - Mine came with a regular key fob (meaning not a key fob with switch blade key). But I've been reading that the 2005's came with the switch blade key fob. Did our cars come with the switch blade key fob as standard or was that an added option? I ask b/c the key fob is not working with my car. I've put in new battery and did the programming sequence several times with no luck. The FCC# is KPU41805 which is different from the switch blade key fobs being sold on ebay with FCC# of KPU41788. If the key fob on ebay is the correct one then, the dealer didn't get the original key and just fashioned something together. (which would **** me off)
If that's the case I may have the ignition and door locks changed out b/c someone out there might just have the original keys

now that is pissing me off b/c I bought the car from honda, but there was a mazda dealer right next to it and I'm pretty sure they are both owned by the same guy, but of course they are going to claim they don't know about each others business, blah blah blah...guess rekeying everything will be my first upgrade

I am also a new Shinka owner as well! Purchased a Shink from NJ that needed some work... Got it from ChicoElder here on the forums. Replaced the Engine, Tranny, Clutch, exhaust, O2 seonsor, and rear wheel bearing. Seems to be running good. Worst part was that the windshield cracked on the way home and guess how much one of those are!!!
Anyway I have a few terrible pics from my phone posted below. I will be sure to get some better ones soon Glad to be part of the group here!

1357 were made. there was an intent to produce a total of 2200 but as i recall, something happened to the plant where they were being made... earthquake maybe? dont remember. regardless, production was ceased prematurely. here's the link tothe .pdf online that you can use to verify your vin to production #: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...on_Numbers.pdf

and I heard it was a fire at the plant that disrupted the 05 Shinka production numbers

Sorry to hear, but if it's any consolation, at least you'll have a squeaky clean, new, scratch-free windshield. My Shinka is over 6 years old and the windshield pits and scratches from stones that simply won't come out. What's more, it's always had minor optical distortion (if I move my head straight up and down several inches, I can see it). So I'm almost hoping to get a crack so I can get a replacement.

Actually, "black cherry mica" is a good name. The color is the same as Dr. Pepper Diet Black Cherry Vanilla:
Dr Pepper - Products
(And you'll notice that the contrasting color on the label matches the color of our "parchment" leather interior!)
