Really? It was love at first sight (intarweb picture) for me. When I told my wife that we were driving 3 hours to go look at one, she was totally against it (as she was for getting an RX-8 altogether)... Until the owner opened his garage. Once she saw it, she whispered to me "You gotta get this car." One of the best days of my life!

Anyone find a site where we can get kits for the car painted in this color? I just want the tiny side skirt appearance pieces on other 8's? Basically need a place for the Cherry Red place.

Yeah =\ I'm gonna be starting college in Australia in November, and I'd take the 8 with me if I could lol. So i'm looking to sell it to get rid of the car payment and be able to save more.
I've got my eye on a first gen rx7 right now. And if that falls through, I might be rebuilding the engine in my 1972 Nova to putt me around until November.

The S1/S2 RX7 (12a/4mt) had only 100 to 105 hp. While they feel like they have race car handling and it was the perfect autocross car in it's day, you will want to put holes in the floor board so you can push it faster. The S3 (13b/5mt) isn't much better. It was 135 hp with almost 200 lb increase in weight. Redline is 6.5 to 7K rpm and you definitely will want to live above 4K rpm.

Yeah, I've been reading a lot on the rx7club quite a bit the past few days, until then I had no idea they had that little horsepower . That's ok though since it's just gonna get me around for a few months. The one im going to be looking at is a 84, and is supposed to be a 13b instead of the 12a. So it should have fuel injection at least. Its got 160,000 miles, the body is beautiful with no rust, but the guy that has it doesn't know anything about how it was drove, so I'm a little leery about it. I'll just have to check it out first once I'm back home.

It's difficult to find one with a good body in my area.
I do have a bit of experience with the 1st gen cars (see sig). The GSL-SE, the one your looking at, runs out of air at redline due to a restriction. Modifying the intake, before the throttle body will give you more HP and the engine will rev higher. Suspension Techniques is the place to go for any suspension upgrades. You do get 5 lug hubs, so aftermarket wheels are a lot easier to get. Depending on offset, 205 tire's are the widest you can get without rubbing on the front fender.

Haha, now you're just showing off.
What I'm mostly trying to find on rx7club's website right now is common things to look for in those old used rx7s that could mean bad news. As in any noises, certain spots to check, see if it lugs in the powerband at all and whatever.

hi all,
new shinka owner here - I was looking around my local area to see if there were any rx8's to test drive so I can see how it feels and ended up testing out my shinka (with 63k, minor ware and tear for the years, but otherwise seemed pretty well taken care of) & decided to buy it after reading up on it a bit.
my question is I read somewhere (here I think) that there is suppose to be a numbered plaque in the engine bay somewhere with your car's number on it. well, I've looked and looked and can't find it anywhere. I'm missing the engine cover though - so just don't tell it was on that! or is this not true. Yes, I verified the VIN to be number 985 before I bought it.
if it is in the engine bay, can someone take a pic so i can see where it is, or should be - maybe 1 of the 3 previous owners decided to take it as a souvenier

As for the numbered plaque, I've never heard of that. And mine certainly doesn't have one.

thanks for the responses, guess the plaque thing was mis-info , just like the difference in number of cars made, some websites were saying 3,000 cars were made !
another question - Mine came with a regular key fob (meaning not a key fob with switch blade key). But I've been reading that the 2005's came with the switch blade key fob. Did our cars come with the switch blade key fob as standard or was that an added option? I ask b/c the key fob is not working with my car. I've put in new battery and did the programming sequence several times with no luck. The FCC# is KPU41805 which is different from the switch blade key fobs being sold on ebay with FCC# of KPU41788. If the key fob on ebay is the correct one then, the dealer didn't get the original key and just fashioned something together. (which would **** me off)
If that's the case I may have the ignition and door locks changed out b/c someone out there might just have the original keys
