That is the RX-01, circa 1997. A showcar that never made it to reality. It might have been the next RX-7, but then the car was pulled from the North American market.

I can't tell from the translation;
'As for the photograph Matsuda RX-8 where those where it is decended of concept car RX-01, are exhibited to 1999 year Tokyo motor show concept car RX-EVOLV, and these 2 concept cars which from the left are exhibited to 1995 year Tokyo motor show are the new model. In the name of Matsuda RX-8, because image of the succession model of the RX-7 is strong, taking the initial of the RX-EVOLV, you say also the name, Matsuda RX-E was temporarily thought.'

Ugghh. Well, the big plastic box to the right at the front is the airbox, and it looks like you can remove the plastic square shroud from around the rotary engine, so you can at least see the darn thing. Is this really necessary?

Actually I think the RX-01 is more like 1995 IIRC.
In addition, whats up with the seatbelts again? I thought it had been finalized that they were in the seats? Now it looks like part door and part floor? That is REALLY odd.
I drove a HOnda Element (WAY cool car, but another story for another day) and it had the front seat belts mounted entirely on the "B Pillar" of the rear suicide door. Didn't seem to have problems clanging or banging from my observation. That would be fine with me in the RX-8. But whats in that photo is just plain WEIRD.
