This could very well be the reson that Can Zoomer is getting such high hp gains from his ECU change. Most cars you are lucky to get 8-12 hp. Can Zoomer is claiming 25-40 hp. Also with their different stages you need to replace the cat as well, so brillo might be right that the cat is weak. I tend to believe the european rating of 228 hp a bit more (from all the dynoes that we have seen).

the 0-60 times for professionals is going to be better than the import tuner mags because they know how to launch, and yes you have to drive it like you stole it, with 6-7k rpm launches

why does everyone freak out over the damn hp?!?! calm down . . . . its true about heat and air flow and front tire speed and all that crap on the dyno. its also true that heat on the road or trak plays a ditermining factor in performance #'s. and dont try to run the 1/4 with the gas light on ether:D just breath in and turn the wheel and remember why this car is so special. and i know this isnt a street racing forum but damn, a good driver in this car can do some pritty cool things. iv beet an srt4 (on a twisty road in the sticks) and the mspeed pro (from a light) and an s2000 (on the freeway) iv also set shoty when a formula D driver drifted my car at the falken drift show off. holly cow the first time he even set behined the wheel of an 8 he threw it into a 100 yard drift at almost 60 mph . . . and pulled it off!! the next turn wasnt so perfect but like i said the first time! im not trying to start anything but i am so sick of hearing people cry about dyno #'s just do a doughnut it helps me:D

wow dont know where that came from :o but why dont people talk more about the steering box of this car? i still think it tracks at cruising speeds on the freeway but im more than impressed with its performance during aggressive driving.

The RX-8 is the best engineered car out of all of those 8.

The car magazines seem to be getting the faster rx8s out there for testing. We all know certain rx8s will not produce 188whp, and the numbers vary depending on car. I wouldn't mind driving another rx8 to see how it feels, because my rx8 simply does not feel like it has anywhere near 188whp. I'm not complaining, because I've accepted the possibility that I may own one of the slower rx8s that could use some sort of ecu mod. To me my rx8 feels seriously detuned, and hopefully Mazda can work out the tuning to where all cars are capable of putting out a 14.5 at track. I don't believe my rx8 can, but I'm sure many of you have cars that will produce 188whp. Even at 188whp though, the 238hp is not accurate, but at least we all know this car is at a minimum level, and can greatly be improved without a turbo of s/c. I wouldn't get defensive about rx8 owners complaining about the hp. The article is an objective, tell it like it is view, and there is nothing wrong with discussing it, or taking criticism. With all the Pros and Cons other cars have, lacking power to me is one of the least important things to criticize when reveiwing a car, so Mazda can easily add some nice hp gains to this car in future, and make it difficult for people to criticise. For now though, the rx8 is lacking a bit in power, but it's just somethign to discuss, not get upset about. All in due time.

The PPF (Power Plant Frame) is a ladder shaped device that bolts to the transmission and the rear housing, strengthening the whole driveline. My 99 10AE had one, but the one in the RX-8 is much beefier and is much more critical to keep aligned properly (could this be some of the transmission failures???).
