I just couldn't bring myself to waste enough time to read all 30 plus pages on this thread. But here's what I takeaway from what I read -

1.) We on the forum are great at whining and complaining. But that just makes us even with any other group in the world.

2.) Mazda is just like any other company, specifically car manufacturers. Their main goal is to make money. Should that really come as a shock to anyone?

3.) Remember, the leaked video was not intended for public access. What may seem cold and customer unfriendly to us, may not seem as harsh when put in context of the larger corparate/ dealer/ customer triangle - which we don't have access to. MNAO has a responsibility to its dealers to address issues related to customer surveys especially when those surveys might not provide feedback directly related to dealer service.

4.) MNAO has a pitiful PR department. This leaked video is the type of thing that can leave long term damage to Mazda's reputation. It should have been addressed immediately and Jeremy Barnes rebuttal came out wayyyyyy too late.

5.) MNAO has terrible marketing. The RX-8 has won a number of awards and received numerous accolades, yet demand doesn't seem to be that great and resale value is dismal.

8.) The RX-8 is still a great car. I still love mine after 50,000+ miles. Oh yeah, those have been trouble free miles!

I personally dont blame Mazda. If this site is any indication, and if rumors found on almost every other site about 8 owners are to be believed, Im sure they as a company and the dealers individually are fed up and sick of dealing with a group of whining pansies. Makes me glad I got rid of mine.

I love posts like this one:
if you go to the rx8 board you will quickly learn that a large percentage of 8 owners are whiny little b---hes that are never happy with anything and take their car in to fix problems they don't even have because they want things for free...

I suggest you read throught the new engine club thread in the tech section and tell me how these guys are all crying...I'm sure the guys on thier 3rd engines and one guy on his fourth are just a bunch of whiners that need to live with it....

Thanks mate...brake "noise" nas been an issue with Mazda's and other brands for years.....there is always a cost/performance based evaluation with ANYTHING that is fitted to you car.....too harder compound pads will squeal,,,,too soft the pads will chop out or wear down quickly and have a poor braking perofrmance...

For the **** HEADS here, yes, I can comprehend what you post, perhaps its how one interprets your words...

If you think A cars reliability is NOT ASSOCIATED in anyway to the "SERVICE" you get from your dealership workshop and your overall satisfaction after the fact...then you are an IDIOT...of course they go together...but if you are returning 10 times after being told that the issue is NOT a Fault or an issue, but a characteristic of the CAR , and then you accuse the dealer of poor service...because my other car does not do it.. or whatever...you are the problem NOT the dealer or the CAR....I would RATE you as a whinger...but never to your face!

well i just read a little bit of this thread (which grew very rapidly, i might add) so this may have already been mentioned, but the upside to all this is that for those of us who have been waiting to go to FI due to our warranties might be much more inclined to do so ahead of schedule...

The end of the autoweek article needs to be reiterated:

"The story has an ironic twist. After the broadcast, J.D. Power and Associates issued customer-satisfaction scores that showed the RX-8 was Mazda's highest-scoring model.

"Those people love their cars," says DeVaux. "The few dealers who sort of put this on the table may have been overreacting."

Mazda plans to review whether it even needs to keep the RX-8 numbers out of the scores.

Says Mike Ray, Mazda director of customer satisfaction and loyalty: "This was a short-term proposal. We will look at it monthly." "

The problem with that is JD power rates the car based off of what customers are saying, which we all seem to agree, is a great car, but Mazda sees the financial downside to this ( as in warrenty expenses paid out) and sees it from a very different perspective. I would think Mazda has a clearer view of how the RX8 is doing...

True. And there has to be some consideration of why JD Power would quickly re-publish these results - i.e. - maybe a "back scratching" being returned? But it does reinforce the fact that most 8 owners have not had severe problems, or the ratings would reflect it.
