Milk is a consumable. As is water, gum and fuel.
Pretty much anything that will attrit at the same rate that it looses value is a consumable.
You washer and dryer are not consumables.
Your house is not a consumable.
Neither is your car.

Any purchase that performs a "service", the value of which exceedes its intrinsic value is not a consumable.

Perhaps the guy who is getting 12/18 is because he red lines at every change!!
Many here get a lot more that the "ADVERTISED" numbers.
Holy crap. rodrigo67 is fully right. You have no reading comprehension.

I said I get 15/21, no big deal since the EPA is wrong.
Now read that slowly.
I get less than expected, but the EPA is wrong most of the time anyways. I was implying that the mileage I got was acceptable since the EPA is usually wrong. On the other hand I was saying 12/18 is not acceptable, and that's what some peopel were getting. And sure, maybe he redlines at every chance, but maybe he doesn't. And maybe he took his car in for the dealer to look at and when the dealer drove it around they also got 12mpg? (Btw, that's what happened to the guy. He could've been lying, but I doubt it. His posts should still be on the forum somewhere.)

As for the Mazda issuing TSBs to "shut whiners up". Sigh. Just sigh. I never understood the fanboy thing of not being able to see ANY problems with the thing they love. The RX-8 is an awesome value. Great looking car. Unique. And way fun to drive. It also has plenty of flaws. Mazda is a company that makes cars that are probably the most fun to drive in their class, but isn't known for reliability or great service.

This whole issue is not about the car though, it's about the customer service. Mazda dealers in the US have doled out some pretty sucky service (as evidenced from reviews) and from this video, Mazda North America KNOWS that many dealers been giving 8 owners on average crappy service and have given them no incentive to get their act together.

That's the issue at hand. Complaining about brake squeal or bad mileage is no reason for dealerships to give you bad service. Mazda has a TSB for brake squeal. The dealer should fix that. The mileage issues have no TSB. They should take a look and see if they can see anything wrong. If they can't, they should politely tell them they couldn't find anything wrong and that they're sorry.

I really hope you don't run a Mazda service center (though I wouldn't be surprised after experiencing the service my local dealer gave me).

A Technical Service Bulletin is made to assist dealers to deal with common complaints quicker and not have to have technicians waste their time.... it can cover anything from a true defect to explaining to people the right pedal is the gas and it makes the car go vroom vroom.

The pads were changed late in the 2004 model year - so everyone after that is going into the dealer are getting the same pads they already had on - which is great until they glaze over like the old pads and start squealing again. The cycle then seems to go on and on since everyone wants to bitch but not go with pads from a different manufacturer.

I'm personally glad mazda has not cheapened the pads in order to make the car more appealing to those who should not be driving it - and i'd sure as hell be mad if I got new Mazda pads and suddenly i lost 20% of my braking ability. Since it seems its the number one complaint that pisses off service manager, people who should not be driving the car don't agree...

ASH8, you are exactly right. The TSB came out to address whiners. The original equipment pad is a very hard pad, performance oriented. The latest TSB pad is a softer compound pad which will hopefully squeak less. We were told by Mazda technical to let customers know that this pad is softer and may create more brake dust issues on the wheels. I've had the original pads from the beginning. No brake squeak at all, ever. I would guess driving habits would have something to do with it.

Guys, I think we're all in agreement that anyone with no problems is a totally l33t driver and anyone who ever has a problem is a whiner that should be dragged into the street and shot.

Now that that's settled we can get this thread back on track to where it has naturally evolved -- Jessica Alba.

^You missed her *****, too.

Spork - sorry, but you can't say this: "Mazda is a company that makes cars that are probably the most fun to drive in their class, but isn't known for reliability or great service." and then complain about it like this "This whole issue is not about the car though, it's about the customer service. Mazda dealers in the US have doled out some pretty sucky service . . . "

So you knew their service sucked, bought the car anyway, now you're upset that the service sucks?

I fully understand that this video gives a free pass to the places that really suck, and I feel for those of you that have no choice but to deal with them. This is a shitty way for MNAO to deal with it, it's a bandaid on a severed limb. But, I'm pretty sure there are some good dealerships being screwed out of $$ they deserve due to the 8.

I agree. Basically it sounds like MNAO needs to do some house cleaning on how they deal with the 8; to punish good dealerships and let bad dealerships slide by is probably not the best business decision they've made lately.

But then again, they may just all be out golfing, right? Can you imagine their scores due to all of their mulligans?

^I go to the one in Arlington, I'm pretty satisfied. They can't fix the marbles, but it seems nobody can, so that's okay.
