I think the answer is obvious and simple...
Someone with a 350Z can easily pick up a hot date.
Someone with an RX-8 can easily pick up three at a time.
(Cue **** music)

hahahahaha cryomax says it best!!! but i do wanna say not out of defense of rx8, but just my $0.02 that both 350Z and rx8 are great cars... but its like everyone has said, what do you want straightline performance or overall performance... i have read 3 magazine articles where overall performance was awarded to the 8... keep in mind the people who tested both cars are professionals who do this everyday, not ur high school kids who drag race up and down the city parkway!

Quality wise Nissans are bad regardless of performance.
Some years back I had a Nissan 300ZX, predecessor of the 350, and quality wise it was a piece of crap. After having 3 different Nissans I'm never going back.
All in the RX-8 is a superior car, not to mention much better looking.

Yawn.... the Z's a nice car, but so different from the RX-8...
If you want to street fight above all else, get a 350Z or a Mustang GT. You'll beat just about everyone off the line. If you want a quick, tossable, useful, practical, quiet, and smooth car, get an 8.
I really liked driving the Z on my test, but my ears hurt for a day after I got home. It does have a great motor, but its handling is way too biased towards understeer. This is inherent in its chassis design, and I don't exect Nissan will be able to make the car more neutral without compromising its grip. I like the form and layout of its interior, but not the materials. And, there's no storage space.
It could be a great second or third car. At a certain point an enthusiast's life, you'll realize that straight line acceleration isn't the most important thing. It's the overall package, how the entire car works, from its power delivery, handling, ergonomics, NVH, and general comfort level, that make a great car. Really, the only draw back of the 8 is the mileage issue.
I could drive 18 hours straight in my old BMW 325is, and I can do the same in my new RX-8. I can't do more than 30 minutes in a Z without having my ears ring.

great video
however,
At about 3 minutes into the clip the 8 driver went wide on the turn and the S2000 passed him then at about 3:20 or so he went wide and STAYED wide on the track and allowed the G35 to pass.
Much has to be said for the driver too in cases like this.
The 8 is a quick car for the money. It is also practical. We just watched Motorweek today and they featured cross-platform cars. The RX8, as a 4 door sports car is an example of such multi-marketing and there are many other cars to come-mixed up I mean.
When I shopped the G35, 350Z, RX8, S2000 the G35 was my 2nd choice. THey really are all nice cars but with just a difference in performance prioriites.

noticed also that he up shifted as he went wide to let them pass and then down shifted immediatly to take the turn. never should have upshifted. there was no need. he could have carried alot more speed to later in the turn. see later vids in that series as an example. no doubt tho the stook and the g35c are formiddable cars.

Stuck in a love triangle
I dont know why youguys are giving this ******** post so much attention. Think about it man. What otherpurpose would he have to make a post like this otherthan to show negativequalities of our car and to feed his pathetic ego?? If you lookat all the other posts hehas made on this forum hes alwayshad something bad to say about the Rx8 andalways retorts to praising his little precious 350z --which bytheway I could be smoking rightnow if I still had my Trans Am. I dont give a **** about what he says about tryingto be "objective" here b/c right after that he mocks us by saying go get a box of kleenex. I thoughtyou guys didnt waste your time w/losers like Z.

So, to argue at Z's level of intelligence:
You poopy head! POOPY POOPY POOPY!
Oh, and my daddy can kick your daddy's ***.
Pfft. What a dumbass you are Z. Post again. Please. I could use the entertainment.

RX-8 won Grand AM
http://www.speedarena.com/news/publi...cle_4272.shtml
RX-8 won S2K and others BY FAR...its a video shown on various websites and on the Best Motoring DVD..looks like the Z is hopeless against the Mazdaspeed (unfortunately only sold in Japan at this moment)...only if being the fastest or faster in a video is THAT important.
http://www.step-hen.com/rx8/files/revenge%20battle.wmv
I think it really takes more skill to drive an 8 than other muscle cars because of the high RPM. Time will tell when the 8 is driven more by professionals.
I also agree, the 8 does not need to be the fastest car as there will always be one that is faster. It simply needs to be the best and it is, as acclamined critics all over the world agree.

I like the 8 vs S2000 race, was that the full mazdaspeed kit? Very nice.
What was up with the Golf and Civic, I wonder what kind of mods they had, certainly not in the same class.

The revenge battle is not the same thing is it? The car in there is actually a Mazdaspeed RX-8 A-spec, not a stock RX-8. The 350Z is really a good car, it's just that some of the insecure ****** driving them (like the original poster here) that annoys me.

Yes the A-spec Mazdaspeed has Mazdaspeed brand performance kit on top of the body kit including a stiffer suspension, just like some older models like the Z would add to their stock form when given to critics to test. So I guess these tests can vary a lot added that the drivers are different.
To be more scientific, we will need to have each driver driving each car for a while and race in each car at least few times to determine more reliably. Yea I know it's impossible, costly and time consuming. We all know too well that even owners can drive better one day from another needless to say to have the same driver racing in all the cars is pointless although is more scientifically sound if applicable. Racing is testing skills more than car and there's no dispute about that or we will not have celebrity racers. However, I guess it only adds fun and helps video sale since it provokes so much emotion from guys who care about who's faster while in the end one will win some and another will win some. It is truly interesting to see each car can win and lose in different races in such a wide margin...That already tells us a lot!
Anyway, I admire all these cars be that the Z, S2K, RX-8, they all are great cars with different qualities to appreciate. But still I think the 8 is not meant to be RX-7...its a FAMILY car with S2K performance but much quieter and comfy on bumpy roads. That's already an eye opener and a miracle as many critics put it. That's also why Honda licsenced the suspension technology from Mazda for the S2K...a little inside secret I saw on an S2K website.

RX8, 350z, G35, blah. All stylish, quick, and sporty. In the end all that really matters is EVO & STI pW/\/ j00 a11! I think you guys are crazy for thinking you're so performance oriented and beating the comparisons to death. You guys made performance sacrifices for styling, features, etc. It's good to know the pros and cons but if you're going to compare these cars compare the features and styling as well. Good luck with that!

Can't agree more. It's too tiring to care since there will always be a faster car needless to mention we'll not race a $30K car on the street ony to lose to a speeding ticket and insurance hence fast and responisve is enough...really doesn't need to be the fastest. The 8 looks so sexy, stylish, comfy even on bumpy roads and useful and special and has the performance to match...wow, where else can you find a car so packed with goodies... and Mazda really isn't charging us much for it.
