Mazda would not gain anything my adding the Renesis to the MX-5 chassis at this point. The MPG figures are not good enough and the HP gain isn't great enough to drive sales. I was just wondering if anyone has shoehorned the Renesis into an MX-5. I know Mazda hasn't. Many have spoken of it, but I've never seen one, or for that matter I've never really looked that hard.

Sarcastic Zoom? I'd neve thought I'd see the day....
Swiftnet: There re pictures out on the net of a couple of MX-5s running on a test track sporting n rRX-8 front face (& it is said they were running renesis under the hood) From that, Its been said that The Mazda testmules for the original renesis were MX-5 chassis, The engine can bolt in with little modification, & even the front body panels can be "shoehorned" in place
The chassis/frame shares a ton of components in those 2, so yes, it has been done before.

Not where I live, 5% unemployment, have not been in a recession for over 20 years...BUT it is coming...fast.
And yes many have put a Renesis in a MX-5....can be up to 1000 lbs lighter than an RX-8.
The power to weight would be and is way better than the 8.....so.....

Weight-to-power is everything.
My Miata has less than 1/3 the power of my RX-8 (for the moment), but since it weighs almost 1300 pounds less, I run similar lap times.
It is faster than the '8 in Auto-X.
This is a 1993 MX-5 that probably only puts 98 HP to the ground.
Another 50 HP would be like 150 more in the RX-8, but it still wouldn't handle as well.

Whether or not it becomes available here, Mazda stresses the RX-8 will remain available in Australia for at least the next 12 months.

but with less weight and less power
with the Renesis engine in the NC , there will be another 65hp and 19tq increase, also the renesis 13B is lighter than the stock 2.0L 4 hanger,
so there will be around 700lbs difference
The same chassis, with same engine, but with 700lbs less, tell me why not renesis in MX5 ? If u do goes to track, even know the math, u will know what's the difference of 700lbs weight reduction.
Better MPG
Better Performance,
Better handling
ps: LS engine is better than stupid VQ35, lighter , better, more power and TQ, i will do a LS swap in the RX8 but not VQ35 :D

I think many people don't actually fully realize the difference that 700+ pounds of weight reduction makes. Anyone that has driven both the Miata and RX-8 against the limits knows, but this is still relatively few.
My NB Miata is ~850lbs lighter than my 8 (NB lighter than NC, plus further reduction, and I've got the GT variant of the 8), and the weight difference is incredibly apparent.
Those that question it, think about a 300whp turbocharged RX-8.
That's about the same power to weight ratio as an NA Renny in a Miata. (depending on Miata trim level, RX-8 trim level, etc...)

Oh and yeah my RX-8 is an overweight TANK compared to my 2.0 NC MX-5.
As I suggested 3 years ago, Mazda missed a huge sales opportunity by not putting a rotary in the smaller/lighter NC.
It appears they could be about to look at it....could..
