If you have comprehensive insurance it may cover this! Then the insurance company can sue them for criminal negligence!
Why do you change this washer so often - is it covered under warrenty? Anybody know?

We have 'Uncle Ed's' here in Michigan - they're even worse than Jiffy Lube, if that's possible.

I don't have my present job because I applied for a job at the local lube shop and got turned down. Anyone can change oil. If you have the facility (ie garage), just change the oil, tranny fluid, diff fluid, coolant, air filter, everything, yourself. Its very satisfying.
I remember being at Jiffy Lube for an oil change a couple years ago and watched as they easily sold 3 other people on new wiper blades, cabin air filter, air filter. All three of them were driving fleet vehicles, and they all said "well, if the fleet will pay for it, go for it." That is how they make their money. Upselling the fleet customers. The fleet management companies would do well for themselves to simply BAN jiffy lube.

Most service places are like that, I watched, at Grease monkey as they sold some Lady an air filter for $20 and charged her another $20 for her pcv valve. It was sad, then they offered to "Clean my injectors" for $99...lol. Since then I do it myself, if I have to take my car in I ask to see the old parts. A good mechanic will volunteer to show you the parts.

Here's one for you.
A couple of days ago I went to Monro Brake and Muffler to get my new cat welded on (Magnaflow 3" high flow).. went home for about an hour and came back, my car was on the lift waiting for me to check and verify that they did a ******* excellent job in welding 2 bungs, and the cat 3" to 2.5" conversion. Including a correct angle for my wideband 02.
Monro all the way :]

Went to Jiffy Lube a couple of years ago for an oil change on my Lincoln LS. One month earlier I had my trans fluid serviced at the dealership. The Jiffy Lube tech actually had the stones to call me over to my car and say, "You have over 50K miles on your car, look at your transmission fluid, it really needs to be changed." I was taken back that this guy would try to pull this over on a customer! I asked him if he thought I was a moron and instructed him that I'd just had the fluid changed a month ago. His response, "Well I guess your fluids fine then, you don't need to have it changed." Brilliant!

This is something that's gonna occur at all service facilities. It works because most people put trust in these places, and do what they say. They take your money, many times changing something that doesn't need to be changed, or in this case not doing the work at all.
I can no longer change my oil where I live since it's not allowed, so I have to go to these places. I am just bold, and say, nothing but an oil change today, no need to check anything. It's an easy way out to know and learn your own service interval, and let them know that you are the one keeping track of your vehicle. When it comes time for service, I'll let them know what to change, and watch them change it. That's the best way around this manipulative land we now live in where ripping people off without them knowing it is a normal thing. They'll continue to bleed the niave, but you can be smart and not let it happen to you.

i took my car in to my dealership for a grinding sound from the rear of my car during acceleration. the guy calls me back and tells me the differential fluid is the wrong viscosity and that there is a white ring painted around the fill hole...something usually associated with jiffy lube he says. they paint a ring around the fill holes so they dont forget theyve already changed it. regardless, jiffy lube almost ruined my rear-slip because the previous owner took it there (or somewhere similar) for some reason. thanks to my dealer my car is not grinding anymore.

Our mechanic looked at it and said she siezed the engine because there was no oil. It was also obvious that the filter was pretty old also. They charged her for the service and did nothing
The 2 things I learned here:
1) NEVER GO TO JIFFY LUBE!!!!!
2) DONT LET THE WIFE TAKE THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE!!

I had to go to NAPA to get the filter and came back and made them do the service over.
A friend owns a Grease Monkey, so I thought I would try that. I took it in there when the owner was not around and right off the bat they came in and asked if I wanted my filter replaced with the same NAPA 2 quart filter or if I wanted an HP-4 since the Fram 2 quart was difficult to get in there ( about 1/2 inch longer than the NAPA ).
It was nice they were thourough, and gave me a choice. I went for the NAPA 2 quart replacement and they went to NAPA and got it, without charging me extra.
I'll go back to Grease Monkey, but never again to Jiffy Lube.
