MrWigggles 06-20-2006 12:19 PM

Man that is bad.

The district manager pretending he is a customer when the camera crew arrives is absolutely ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing. No Jiffy Lube for me.

i heard many different bad things about jiffy lube.
i think its a good idea to stay away from them :)

saturn 06-20-2006 12:25 PM

This is exactly the reason why I don't change my oil. Too many things can go wrong if I do.

NgoRX8 06-20-2006 12:45 PM

you don't change your oil???

or you don't change your own oil? cuz nothing is wrong with the car, it's that the service aint being done.

never trust jiffy lube

F22C1 06-20-2006 12:52 PM

I always get this feeling from anywhere cars are serviced. Jiffy Lube, dealerships, etc.

Seems you can't have that peace of mind anymore.

never trust jiffy lube

I just don't change my oil. Never know what could happen.

zoned 06-20-2006 12:56 PM

Thats why if I have to take my car to "the lube" I stand right beside them when they do the work. sure they hate it but eff em, I want to make sure it's done right.

OnRails 06-20-2006 01:00 PM

If I do take my car somewhere, I always watch to make sure things get done. I'm sure they don't like me hanging around but I follow the "trust but verify" way of doing things when it comes to chain stores. IMO, independent shops can be more trustworthy because the owners actually work in the shop a lot of the time and are interested in repeat business and word of mouth advertising. But again "trust but verify"

This happens all the time...everywhere not even just jiffylube. The only thing to do is that once you do find an honest mechanic (which is rare) just stick with them no matter what they charge. That is the only way. Or...do everything yourself :)

MSTYLES 06-20-2006 01:35 PM

I've been in a lawsuit for 2 years with a Jiffy Lube in Norcross GA. I noticed my wifes car was low on oil so I told her not to worry about it and just go and get the oil changed. She went and had the service done and 2 weeks later called me when she broke down.

Our mechanic looked at it and said she siezed the engine because there was no oil. It was also obvious that the filter was pretty old also. They charged her for the service and did nothing

The 2 things I learned here:

1) NEVER GO TO JIFFY LUBE!!!!!

2) DONT LET THE WIFE TAKE THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE!! :banghead:

Renesis_8 06-20-2006 07:34 PM

You know... I think I'll start putting marks on fuel filter before I take my car in service to dealership from now on... It is indeed too easy to get away with it! Not too sure about preventative measures for other stuff like changing engine oil and trans fluid tho... Any suggestions?

Seriously... Jiffy Lube and Just Brakes, two of the worst "Vehicle Servicing" business' I've ever had my money swindled by.... bastards!

N rider89 06-21-2006 02:29 AM

wow thats just bad. boo to jiffy lube. thank god i found a good honest machanic who also just happen to love rotaries.

josh989 07-03-2006 03:33 PM

That's why when i used to go to jiffy lube, i'd stand next to my car and watch them change the oil.

Clavius 07-03-2006 08:03 PM

If you dont care about your car you take it to the Lube.. if you care about it take it to the dealer or do it yourself. To me if the dealer screws up you know someone will get fired. That and all the people I've known that have worked at the Lube have been druggies and drunks.

dupa12345 07-03-2006 08:27 PM

they blew my engine and ended up putting in a new one covered cost of rental and all

as far as service .. i would never go back .. these kids dont know anything else except to take plug out put plug in .. and they miss half the steps
as far as corporate .. they dont give two shits about corporate responsibility and customer service .. just cover the their minimum basis as to not get sued

as such jiffy lube is a definitive NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN place for me

deam 07-03-2006 10:06 PM

I believe everyone should change their own oil, its not too difficult, and they can just toss it at their nearest kragens, as for jiffylube, i believe they are just as bad as any other companies like walmart, and any other place. The reasoning is they pay little, and hire people out of highschool, that took auto class. Only to maximize profits, when really they are killing their reputation, and potential BIG law suits. The people who run the businesses do not have business knowledge/experience and same with business ethics....

crimson-rain 07-04-2006 08:45 AM

I've had my oil changed by them ONE TIME. It was my old car, Spec V (I kind of miss that little torque monster). Anyway, I checked my oil 10 mins (3 miles later) and come to find out it was the same dirty oil in it. I was so pissed I didn't want to go back. I knew I would do something to get arrested. My 8 has never been changed by a shop or a dealer. I do EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY CAN on the car myself to learn and to get to know what I'm doing. If I can't do it, it goes to a tuning shop where I have known the owners for some time now. Or this mechanic that hooks me and boys up alot.

nycgps 07-04-2006 10:09 AM

From time to time .... I see these "jiffy lube" around the area. but I never really trust them for some reason, my instincts maybe, but I guess I got it right !

I tried to change my own oil, I brought a Jack but it wasnt high enough so I have to go to the place where I used to take my father's minivan to.

One thing to note is that, I get my own oil filter(Wix) and my own oil(RP right now) and they just lift the car up and put it in, 12 bucks. Not so bad.

but next time I will try to change it myself (by getting a better jack)

mike1324a 07-04-2006 11:45 AM

Any time i go to get anything like that done i satnd right there next to the car and watch them and make sure it all gets done.

Easy_E1 07-04-2006 11:57 AM

Yep Jiffy-Lube is a joke! I took our MItsubishi Montero Ltd. in for an oil change ( I always watch them) and the "mechanic" (lol) started to drain the ATF. I yelled at the guy "what the F___ are you doing" He said "changing the engine oil" I said put that drain plug back in. That is the transmission. Went and got the guy in charge, told him the moron under my car is draining the trans fluid and thinks it is the engine oil. Told him I want a reciept stating what they had just done and on it I want written down on the invoice what you put back in my trans for fluid and additives.
So that is the last time I will ever go to Jiffy-Lube.
Also the Mazda dealer that I bought our first RX-8 from gave us a free oil change.
But they never changed the oil. They even put a sticker in the corner of the windshield with the day and mileage on it . The reason I found out is when another dealer was changing my engine oil and asked if I had ever had it changed before. Well of course I said yes.
They said come look at this,,they showed me the oil filter and I took a pic of it. It seems the part # on the filter is not available anywhere except from the factory at assembely.
Called three different dealers including the one that said they had changed my oil.
"No have not had that part # for about 5 years."
The moral of the story is mark your stuff like they did in that video and take a pic of it before they do the work . It gives you a major advantage over them in a court of law.

Razz1 07-16-2006 10:52 AM

Changing your oil is a little hassel, but it's easy to do.

And if you do not want to do any work to your car this is the only thing you should do by yourself.

Celronx 07-16-2006 12:46 PM

I got one for you. My wife had the 8 yesterday and she decided to get the oil changed at Jiffy Lube to help me out since I've been so busy lately at work and what not.

She calls me and tells me that she's there and getting it done. I tell her to ask them to change the crush washer since I have used it for the last 3 changes. That's my normal rotation. I tell here that if they don't have one, there is one in the glove box and to give them that one to use. When all things are done, she confirms with 2 people(one of them the manager) that they changed the washer.

She gets home and I notice some smoke comming off the car. I think OHH CRAP, open the hood, and there is new oil everywhere. All over the top of the engine, alternator, intake manafold, everywhere. It looks like it came out of the filler neck because it kind of has a spray pattern to it. You know splotchy and spotted looking. I think, man could they have over filled it to the point where it back flowed out of the neck, or did they turn the engine on with the cap off?

I call the shop and talk to the manager, and he assured me that they didn't overfill it and the tech must have spilled. Well, I think that's not right, so i look unter the car, and the whole bottom of the car from the oil pan back is covered in oil. I decide to open up the intake, and find oil everywhere, in the tube, the air box, even inside the throtle body and manafold. I have to have pulled 1/2qt of oil out of everything. I drain the oil and pull about 4 1/2 qts out.....plus they didn't change my freeking crush washer and torqued the plug in so much that I had to use both my arms to break it loose. I'm going there today and raising hell.

NEVER GO TO JIFFY LUBE...........
