Facelifted RX8 revealed!!!!
#151
As others have posted, looks like Ford's contribution to the design is that damn fugly steering wheel. Looks like it came straight out of the Ford GT. Also, curious to know if they've fixed the No. 1 troublesome problem with RX-8s, i.e., the sun visors. Did I miss where someone mentioned if sidemarkers were going to be standard for all markets (U.S. included)?
Thx

I like the seats, side vent/marker, and the rear bumper. That's it, Not really feeling the new front end very much, and I don't like the tailights much at all. If the seat will retrofit I'm 'bout it. The wheels just don't do anything for me, either.
They should have just used the mazdaspeed version 2 front end-way better and cleaner looking imo.

Mazda is committed to the RX-8 platform until 2012. My prediction is that you'll see the 1.6L in the 2011 model year which will give them a year of "real world experience" with the engine in the field before releasing the next two seater. JMO!

Main Entry: face–lift
Function: noun
Date: 1934
1 : plastic surgery on the face and neck to remove defects and imperfections (as wrinkles or sagging skin) typical of aging
2 : an alteration, restoration, or restyling (as of a building) intended especially to modernize

Okay, I've let it all soak in. I think everything is either an improvement (the back end especially) or lateral change except:
The steering wheel - the round center doesn't transition well to the rectangular column and looks terribly out of place.
The clock adjustment buttons in the radio face look state of the art... for 1984.
The whole new grill/headlight treatment is far too busy; the current lines look timeless by comparison.

I also agree about the sedan look. That's exactly what I thought but didn't know how to put it into words...
The smooth curves of the MS is much nicer...
Like our interior better and don't like the steering wheel .

I'm sure the front end will grow on me eventually but as it stands now, I prefer current front bumper.
The wheels are pretty bitchin' and I like that they are 19's
The interior is a HIT / MISS for me:
- Don't like the steering wheel. (no longer unique as it's the same as CX7 / CX9)
- don't like the center stereo controls, reminds me of a friend's Nissan Altima (the black / gray theme and positioning)
- Clock buttons look out of place
- Don't like that they got rid of all the small rotors everywhere
- Where's the Nav gonna go? (anwered by zoom)
- I DO like the new leather
- I LOVE the moving redline
- Like that they got rid of the 'dummy' oil gauge. People get in my car and ask, "why do you need those gauges if you already have an oil pressure needle"
- new transmission?
- New front strut looks nice. (should be functional)

only because they're similar in color. Other then that, I don't really see any similarities

Now every car will have the dreaded strakes at least they do look somewhat better admittedly.
I, for one, think that there is way too much going on in that front end. Which is what, in my opinion, makes it look more like a family car. Get rid of the strakes below the fogs and the big piece of plastic at the top of the grill that the license plate is mounted to. I'm surprised I'm the only one who doesn't like that. It just seems needless and tacked on/tacky. I guess they thought that maybe without it the car would've had too big of a "smile".
I do like the larger oil cooler area, and the tails are passable.
I do also hate the steering wheel like everyone else, and I can't believe that the cd player is still integrated with the a/c controls. I guess we can just cross our fingers and hope that we can maybe get the new 2din nav unit, if it even turns out to be a 2 din. Just about anything would be cheaper than the corksport kit.
I do like the way the bottom of the front looks though, it is a definite improvement over the way the current one looks without the appearance package piece. Though the appearance package looks better than either.
Oh well, at least I can keep saving for the next RX.
