Ok, I'm so glad I read the entire thread (otherwise I would have missed the MS pics).

So here's my 2¢.

2009 RS: Cheap black plastic everywhere. Front fogs w/strakes are ugly. Wait, why am I reserving my disdain for just the plastic and the fogs - the entire front end is hideous. The rest is...unremarkable except for the new vents/side markers which I also dislike - they don't flow at all with the shape of the car. What happened to their new "flow" design philosophy? This is definitely not the fruit of all those beautiful concept designs we've seen lately. Seats are nice, but that hardly makes up for the rest.

2009 MS: I love this car - none of the shoddy cheap look of the RS. For some reason, on this version I can tolerate the new fender vents, although I think the old vents or none at all would look better. The interior is pure sex.

Although I'd love to have a 2009 MS RX-8, I'm pretty sure they're going to be priced in the range of 40,000 to...who knows.

duga 01-10-2008 07:07 PM

I love it, and will buy it.

Now it doesn't look like an alien sucking on a lemon in front.

just get the mazdaspeed front bumper, problem solved, and you get more airflow to your oil coolers.

ivory8 01-10-2008 07:16 PM

the new masdaspeed front bumper will be awesome, i hope they make a conversion kit of some kind so it fits on our cars. or maybe it will already fit our cars. *fingers crossed*

BigRed 01-10-2008 07:18 PM

^it doesnt make sense that mazda would go out of their way to make a conversion kit so that their older cars will be able to look like their newer cars. they just want you to buy the new cars... lol. would be nice though!

Soapflake 01-10-2008 07:21 PM

I'd like the rotor-shaped holes on the seats back...

SHOWOFF 01-10-2008 07:25 PM

I like it. Nice update. Not so drastic that it looks like a whole new car just enough to modernize it. The fender vents can take a hike. I don't like the steering wheel it's not very sporty looking, it's very cheap sedan looking. I also noticed that the Recaro's aren't power either. That kind of sucks because they are sweet looking.

SHOWOFF 01-10-2008 07:37 PM

That mazdaspeed car is fucking sick.

zoom44 01-10-2008 07:41 PM

becomes available i might have to have an accident.

Renesis_8 01-10-2008 07:45 PM

Find another RX-8 owner that wants that front and crash into each other.

Damn Zoom you beat me to reposting that photo for this page.
And I myself might have to get into yet another accident to upgrade if that becomes reality. Again just has this menacing look to it that at the same times looks refined. But basicly it just calls out to me in a nut shell. Lets hope this just isnt a car makers "I wish they did this" for the Tokyo Salon and a actual real thing.

Oh I had to mention this (I think Zoom did the photoshop) when the front plastic piece was painted blue it looked alot like the MS v2 Bumber that was made but never produced last year (or was it 2 years ago I forget lol). And also with the MS version are the door panels a white/carbon fiber thread weave?

zoom44 01-10-2008 07:52 PM

i just went and actually saved all the pics so far and then attached them to the posts on the first page. just in case the hosts that they were on cut us off, we have them for posterity

  too funny. The MS front looks very, very nice too. It looks more menacing than the new 911 turbo, which I'm sure it's inspired from.

Oh and I love the rims on the RS. Wonder how much they'll retail..

zoom44 01-10-2008 08:14 PM

a few moments ago there were 200 members and 300 guests on the forum. i hope the swell continues and we break the forum record:). I'm going to go eat dinner but I'm not closing this window so i can help add to the cause:)

Dinhx8 01-10-2008 08:25 PM

Hey, those mazdaspeed rims looks awfully familiar :)

I'd like to see your gunmetal T5s on the MS version rather than those chrome 20's... either way great wheels!

refugeefrompistons 01-10-2008 08:38 PM

LOL to all those bashers saying there will never be an Mazdaspeed version :-D.

MP3Guy 01-10-2008 08:38 PM

My 2 cents: The MX-5 style tailights look nice, but the originals are still more interesting. The RS wheels are an improvement, but I happen to love gunmetal colored wheels.

The front is still problematical for me- on the RS, the black plastic strip running across the top width of the grille looks cheap, and the circular cutouts on either side of the license plate-perhaps there for the mounting of UK license plates- are an eyesore- speaking of which. the mounting of the front plate is still an afterthought on this car, which kills any flow the front end has.

The side intakes are too large, too busy and lack proportion and any relationship in form to the other front end elements, but you see this on so many Japanese cars, which is why they often look so clumsy in execution. However, the larger grille gives the impression of a shorter "snout" which does tighten up the look a bit. I just wish they would choose simpler design elements. This car would so much better if they borrowed from iconic cars like the '65 Ford Cobra, and earlier Ferraris. It always does the job.

The MS is overstyled, IMHO. Like most of these deals, the emphasis is on styling, but the styling is rarely any good.

Someone mentioned the lack of a door lock switch in the interior- note the presence of a keyhole for the trunk on the right rear lamp cluster. No more "request key?"

Anyway, just my opinion, which comes from someone who specified to his dealer that any car he found for me NOT have any spoilers, skirts, flares or rotary accents. Most of the cars that are prized for their styling, are those that succeed on their form alone- not what was tacked on later.

Dookie_Rx-8 01-10-2008 08:39 PM

crap i want those seats

Easy_E1 01-10-2008 08:43 PM

Ok so nobody has mentioned the AT version of this car,, I wonder if it will have "Paddle Shifters" available on that steering wheel?

OK lets here it from the AT haters. :icon_no2:

MadDashRX8 01-10-2008 08:45 PM

Bump. Ha hahaha; like this post needs it...

I like some of it; strongly dislike most of the changes, though. They lost what character the car had to begin with...

Likely caps for the screw-in tow eyes.

JurassicIce 01-10-2008 08:51 PM

I think it looks awesome!

The only problem with that would be, you would have to get new fenders and headlights...
