Edmunds Low Cost to own award!!
I was suprised that no one mentioned this but the RX-8 won the cost to own award on edmunds website. The RX-8 only depricated $4000 dollars its first year as compared to the Acura TL who depriciated $6000 dollars. I was pretty suprised by this since mazda is not known for holding there value as well as Acura. This is another plus for the RX-8.

Damn! Thats way better than my 2002 VW Passat W8 that depreciated $20,000 in the year I owned it! I payed MSRP of $39,480 and 12 months later I was lucky to be offered $20,500 when I was trying to get rid of that POS! I finally lemon lawed the bitch!

Very nice, thanks for the info. With a car like the 8, the value's probably held up since nobody wants to part with theirs :-)

Well VW couldn't sell them. They were heavily discounted. Some were selling for less than V6 GLX! The dealers were discounting them to about $31K in an effort to move them. So figuring in that the dealer needed to make a bit of green on the resale they discounted the trade about $8K less then the price some were selling for retail.
Part of the problem in trying to trade it in they would call the only VW dealer in the area and that would have been Casey in Newport News. The only W8 they had on the lot was a dealer demo with 10K miles on the clock that they were selling for $28k. WTF! So when the dealer heard this they deducted the $7K and came up with the $21K.
Their thinking was how could they sell a used one when one could theoreticly get a new one for the same price or less!
On an aside they are experienceing teh same problem with ther vaunted $90K Pheaton!

Every VW I or anyone I have ever known that owned one has had many problems... They are not very good cars, quality is horrible. They literally fall apart within a year, therefore 50% hit...
