Mazdaspeed RX-8 in SPEED magazine
Im not sure if this has been posted already sorry if it has. There is an article in a new magazine called SPEED which is by the makers of Road and Track. It compares the mazdaspeed Rx-8 to a nismo 350z. The rest of the mag is pretty good too with info on the MR EVO and a comparison test of sporty FWD cars like the srt-4, sentra, celica, etc. I believe this is the first issue of the magazine.

basicly they've improved the handling, suspension and increased the power only to 250 by adding a new lightweight carbonfiber flywheel, new exhaust, and a slightly refined intake system "bump"...it says it'll still have about the same 0-60 and 1/4 times because the added hp makes up for the weight of the bodykit and spoiler..."Major engine tweaks are still to come. According to rumors, Mazdaspeed is working on a supercharged version of the RX8"....and im sure your aware of the interior differences such as carbon fiber trim and a gauge pod where the Navi system is...

well, the article is comparing the Nismo Z and the MS 8, and it said both car are great and give it a tie. I don't see anything saying there will be a supercharged 8. I think the 8 and the z can not compare due to power and style. Z wins, i don't wanna say this but yes, the rx8 can not compare with a z, that's the fact.

Gee I guess once everyone reads your post they'll have to shut the RX-8 production line down!
The fact is some us (hand raised) looked at the Z before the RX-8 and you know what? MY facts say the RX-8 has it all over the Z -- I had near zero interest in the Z AFTER looking at it. That's the fact... Do you own an 8 or a Z?

It can and does compare with the Z, style wise IMO the z is pig ugly.
And on performance (which isnt BHP, thtas just a meaningless number) the 8 is every bit as good as the Z (as seen round top gears test track) and thats with a more compliant suspension, the Z has to have uprated brakes and a far stiffer sispension because its essentialy compromised in handling.

actually it does say something about the supercharger...if you have to article then open up your eyes on the first page of it under POWER second line down "According to rumors, Mazdaspeed is working on a supercharged version of the RX-8" you think i just pulled that quote out of the air???

you can... compare z n rx8 ... but the rx-8 is slower than 350z... i am a Rotary fan... but the RX-8 and Z can be compared but the 8 will lose when it comes to power...
Suspension... weight... style... all that shyt RX-8 wins... all it needs is another rotor... or wider rotors...to generate more power...

The bottom line is if you put any kind of power adder on an RX-8 it will negate any possible advantages of the Z (and a lot of other cars). I can't wait to see a FI RX-8.

a factory Turbo, or factory S/C.. really.. every dealer I go to tells me different.. one says hey a turbo version is coming.. one says hey a s/c version is coming...
argh.. No one really knows..
However what I do care about is.. IF one does come out, will existing owners be able to get a dealer to install the new equip AND be under warranty.. (since it should be a genuine Mazda thing..)

Just bought the mag, cost me $5, but it was well worth it.
I liked it so much that I'll actually subscribe to it. (It will be the only car mag I ever subscribed to). I usually see all of the other stuff on caranddriver.com, motortrend.com, roadandtrack.com, and automobilemag.com.
If its available for free online, why pay for it!

You are gonna have to wait till next Spring before a MazdaSpeed version of the RX-8 comes out. In fact, my sources at Mazda North America are telling me that a MazdaSpeed version of the Mazda 6 will be coming out first, with all-wheel drive and 280 horsepower.
The wait . . . tells me that Mazda must be doing some heavy-duty tinkering with the Rotary engine. Perhaps a larger displacement engine will come out, with perhaps another rotor or two. Maybe even a supercharger. I'm hearing power pushing 350 HP.
Stay tuned!

The guy giving the RX-8 aftermarket seminar at rotary revolution confirmed that there will be superchargers and ECU tuning to go with it available by this time next year for the 8. He also basically confirmed the new RX-7 and said that he beilieves it will have a larger displacement version of the renesis. I'll take either!

Of course I told him I was hoping for both in the new 7.
