No, their study did 5 lbs per wheel (or 20 lbs altogether) was equal to a 5 HP loss at the drive wheels.
Conversely if you had 17 lbs wheels and put on some super light wheels that were only 12 lbs, it would be like gaining 5 HP at the drive wheels.
And one of the reasons that the FC convertible only came with the uberlicht 11 lbs BBS wheels, while the Turbo FC had the 21 lbs alloy wheels.
Remember this is not a case of body weight, but rather drivetrain loss, due to the weight.

Exactly, until somebody weighs the wheels, we actually have no idea if they are heavier.

Wow! Zombie thread.
Since the thread discusses wheel weights for acceleration, something not mentioned is that it's not just about gross wheel weight. Weight distribution over the radius of the wheel plays part in it too.
For example, given 2 sets of wheels with the same wheel weights, the set of wheels with more weight towards the center and less weight toward the perimeter will provide better acceleration but less momentum damping.
This same principle applies to flywheels for throttle response.
So don't be just looking at the gross weights.
