get over it already

I love the rx7, but hey, I don't even think mazda would go back not even with the name (rx7) technology evolution ....
there is room for improvement in everything in life, so the rx8.
just give it more power to the next Rx generation and do it well....
If you don't like the rx8 why owne one?

mazda only sold 126 RX 8's in the USA during the month of march. Do the math.

That was 126 sold with a $5500 rebate in place all month. Makes the math even worse

So far, there is no rebate for RX-8s for April, which could make the sales figures VERY interesting for this month. Feb was 77 with a $5k rebate, March was 126 with a $5.5K rebate. My bet is that April will not break 100 without any rebate. I do not see any way this model continues into 2011, as is. They will offer FI in 2011 or this car is done after 2010. The sales figures are just too dismal

Don't be so narrow minded.

This car is sold World wide.

And the World is in a Depression unlike what Obama says.................

I am being realistic. The RX-8 may continue to be sold in other markets, but it is done in terms of the US market. Look at the US sales figures in 2010 so far and tell me who is being unrealistic. And 2009 was hardly a banner year which is why substantial rebates were being offered on '09s until the end of March. Wake up and smell the coffee. If Mazda offers FI in 2011, then the RX-8 might be able to continue until the 16x is ready. Otherwise, the model is good as dead in the US market. How else do you read these dismal sales figures???

Isn't there some kind of Rear safety update required for MY2011 cars?

LOL, only if its 06+ and not silver or purple, doesn't have gay-aero factory skirts, or is riced out.... even then $15k at best.

Sports Cars of the Future: 2012 Mazda RX-7 - New and Future Cars
The RX-8 may not be the last Mazda to have a rotary engine.

Slideshow >> More Sports Car Futures >> Photos: Sports Car Futures >>

There was a time, not so long ago, when the name Mazda was synonymous with the rotary engine. However, these days, what with lackluster sales of the RX-8 and the success of the Mazda3, not to mention the continued popularity of the MX-5 Miata, the Japanese company from Hiroshima is better known for its efficient piston powerplants than its Wankel.

Despite reports that the RX-8 will be the last car to have a rotary engine, we at R&T have received information directly from Japanese Mazda execs that the death of the rotary has been greatly exaggerated, and that the company is planning to introduce a new rotary-powered car in the near future. Apparently, there’s a team of engineers currently working on a drastically improved version of the Renesis 2-rotor dubbed the 16X (displayed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show). Mazda U.S. had no comment on the subject.

Now that we’ve determined that the rotary will be back, the question is, what will it power? We asked our source, who wanted to remain anonymous, and he replied: “That hasn’t exactly been decided yet, but we’re seriously thinking of building a new RX-7, one that brings back the spirit of the original. Therefore, if we do indeed bring the RX-7 back, it will most likely be lightweight and more affordable than the last model, the FD.” The future car’s styling will borrow heavily from the Furai concept and the Kabura show car, while the chassis will be based on that of the current MX-5.

I do not think this is the final design and hopefully be able to use the Furai influence more. My wife is getting nervous already when I showed her the pic.

I think the Furai looks too busy as well, lines going all over the place just for looks and it looks like crap IMO. They should stick to something unique, but basic and that flows smooth like the one Easy posted on #39.

it's just an illustration. Those future-car illustrations in magazines are never from the manufacturer. They are just artist renderings, done just for the article without any inside knowledge. There's no reason to get upset or excited about the design unless it's an official image.

Given the lead time for print mags, I'm just not sure this is new info.

Sam, there's so much fail in that psuedo R&T story of yours I'm not sure what part of it is more egregous. R&T used to force contributors to a far higher standard than this....but now you're about the same level as MT and C&D, maybe even lower. Let's see what you've got...

"the company is planning to introduce a new rotary-powered car in the near future" and just which 'near future" is that pray tell? ...without a finished engine, and no set car to put it in? That puts this 'near future' at least 3-5 yrs out or so....from today...at best...if they can get the engine to perform as needed....and the money and political will to get a go ahead...

"Apparently, there’s a team of engineers currently working on a drastically improved version of the Renesis 2-rotor dubbed the 16X." Apparently you say? who would've guessed! ...and this is news? Now **Real News** would be that they are actually acomplishing some progress!

"Now that we’ve determined that the rotary will be back" oh so on the hersay of unknown 'Mazda execs" supposedly saying that the rotary isn't dead makes it (aka some unknown car) a green light project without an engine or a vehicle to put it in? Cool! ..and you even know what it will look like...sorta...ya we've seen the pics too...neato!

What a useless pile of crap writing and all because R&T needed some filler pages on a story about the future of sports cars.
