Its always amusing when people get all excited about "spy shots" of a new model. Remember, if theyre still testing these, they might just be using the old chassis. if you've seen the video where they were testing the 8 in different countries, or any car for that matter, the chassis they were using was hedious. Its doubtful that they will keep the body the same with very little changes when they've been showing all sorts of prototype for quite some time now. I love the exterior now, but i hope they change it. Not becasue this one is old but just to move forward.

READ THIS POST> 9 out of 10 theyre testing out the motor and drive train on the current chassis, Im willing to place a bet that the 2010 RX8 doesnt look like that, any takers ?????????

The pics at left lane are much higher res and you can clearly see that both the headlights and taillights are new (autoblog stated the headlights were the same). Bad news is that it looks like they integrated an amber reflector into the headlight... no more swapping out the corners and getting rid of all that ugly amber. Also, it looks like they bulge out from the fender some, indicating that the update would include not just the front bumper and lights, but the front quarter panels and probably hood too.
Out back, it looks like the taillights may be LEDs, and they also look the same shape as the current ones, maybe an easy swap. Anyway, nice to see some real development on the 8.
Not sure if leftlane allows hotlinking... but some pics maybe:

The headlight fails. I mich prefer our current one. The low-beam projectors look more unique and has that rotary accent. Also the parking beam's housing is in a pod. This one looks like something from a mx-5 or a regular mazda.

The leftlanenews article mentions a convertible RX-8......... I hope Mazda isn't serious about it.

This is just the 2009 facelift. I don't expect there to be much/any mechanical changes to the car. However, I hope the tape on the fender isn't covering up a fake fender vent a la the Ford Focus.

It's a test mule... a very early one. Why comment on the wheels? I'm sure they won't be on the final product. Check out the new headlights and new front bumper. It's gonna have a huge grin! I like. Also notice that the new front end pieces don't match the current body, so most likely this isn't a face lift but, like the article says, a mule for the second gen 8 that will have an all new body. Good to finally see this.

Maybe they'll get rid of the freestyle doors and put on a hatch? I hope so.
It could also be a face lift for the RX-8 in mild modifications and at the same time use the same platform for a shorter and smaller RX-7 with Turbo.
