He let the clutch out slowly and the damn thing caught in first gear without any gas!!!

2. She's an idiot. This just had to be reiterated.

3. Driving stick in any rush hour traffic around Chicago blows. Welcome to life. PS, she's still an idiot.

4. Her female status has now been revoked. If she were a female worth any salt, she would know that you can fit a 3' x 4' framed piece of art from Ikea in the back. You can also fit a 6' aluminum ladder in the front seat when you recline the passenger seat all the way back. 10 bags of mulch fit in the trunk.

5. Even I (the goofball who fit all the stuff mentioned above in at one time or another) knows not to shop for a FREAKING KITCHEN TABLE with a sports car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. The scariest thought is that this idiot will be joining us on the roads. She's probably that one who puts on her makeup while talking on the phone driving her SUV like a tank on the shoulder of the highway.

7. She is still an idiot. Where do I write? I'll be happy to tell her so
Thats it. I'm divorcing my wife & will now marry "Redshedevil".......... Simple yet powerfully put. We can both have sticked RX-8s & converse on equal levels.....

Sad thing is those where the types of issues I had when I brought around a sticked RX-8 to show the wife (now-ex wife... ). Only an auto transmission version would get her knod before I was allowed to spend my own cash on her next car......

Imagine my joy when she purchased 100kg (5x20kg bags) of polished pebbles for the garden & had the "nursery boy" load them into the boot.

I have a ***** and I know a kitchen table WILL fit into an RX-8! The table is in my friend's apartment for proof!

SOME people know how to take the leaf out and take the legs off and put them in the trunk. Rags and a sheet I had in the trunk protected the surface in the backseat. It really just boils down to how badly you want that table. Obviously she didn't want it that bad.

It's rare that I get a chance to contradict everyone in a thread AND be right about it...so I jumped at this opportunity.

That said, she is still an idiot.

I didn't go out looking for the table in the 8, I just happened to pass a garage sale and see the table. It turned out to be a great deal that I didn't want to pass up.

I'm glad I leave quite a ways away from that author, as I'd be afraid she'd T-Bone me while running a red light because she wasn't paying attention.

What do you consider "practical" for a sports car? Most cars I think of when thinking sports car don't even have rear seats...

what's funny is i actually managed to fit and transport this in my back seat:

hahahaha, true story. the table folds in half and it actually had room to spare...but I don't know about a KITCHEN TABLE,.... and to think i thought i was crazy for stuffing that table in my back seat...
what really made me was her comment about driving with her heels on and having a mishap with it. seeing how she can't drive a manual properly, she should think about changing into regular shoes before driving. how she was appointed auto editor at that newspaper is beyond me.,..

next time release the emergency brake

Sounds like my 16yr old son who repeatedly stalled my/his Eagle talon in the driveway. He stalled about 3 times before, in frustration, he said " what am I doing wrong"? To which I replied " You need to RELEASE THE E-BRAKE....EINSTEIN"
He wont be making that mistake again.

Madam,

are you kidding me? Your road test is being lampooned to death on the RX-8 owner's forum. As a sports car driver for over thirty years, there is no way you could consider the RX-8 clutch action stiff- not by any measurement. The progressive engagement is one of the best features of the car. You call yourself an automotive journalist?

Let's consider these gems of insight:

"Unless you are a visual person, it can be kind of hard to imagine, so I managed to find a really good animated illustration online."

I think you meant, really, really, REALLY good. You may wish to obtain a copy of the New York Times Manual of Style and Usage, so you'll sound less like a sixteen year old, and more like someone whose job description calls for the use of the English language to convey ideas.

"There aren’t too many RX-8s on the road, so I also liked the fact that it was relatively unusual. Made it easier to find the car in a parking lot."

That's what I call a ringing endorsement for an automobile. Sure beats the hell out owning a Camry, doesn't it? Even WITH a stiff clutch.

"While the back seat is somewhat roomy for passengers, the rear bucket seats with a center console make it difficult to slide anything onto the back seat. I was thinking about buying a new kitchen table during the test week, but ended up holding off because of the divided back seat."

Which explains why so many enthusiasts choose the Corvette over this car. Why be tempted?

"I like the blue backlighting on the gauges when the headlights are off. "

I bet they match your eyes.

"But this keeps things bright enough at night that you might forget to turn on your headlights."

This has never happened to a single owner I know.

"The last problem I had is definitely more of a female-centered issue. There is a small gap between the dead pedal and the floor, which I never would have noticed wearing my regular 2-inch heels. But one day, I wore spiky heels, and the pointed tip of my left heel got stuck under the dead pedal and scared the snot out of me as I was trying to move my foot to the clutch to do a quick shift. That was definitely a new one."

Take heart. I hear Lamborghini has addressed this problem in all of their cars. God, stick to restaurant reviews. Better still, leave this stuff to David E. Davis.

I just read the article and all I can say is......
She must normaly do resturant reviews or something. All I could think of was "She fits right into the sterotypical dumb woman mold." and I mean that in a bad way. Did she just get into Highschool? Overall the article seemed like it was half assed written and by someone who was in 9th grade.

This perplexed me though how she commented about driving around a few times without the headlights on.. like seriously WTF?!? How damn stupid are you woman?! Is the Chicago area so well lit on every damn street that you didnt even notice the difference in lighting, that and I'd like to believe that others in opposing traffic would be flashing their lights at you.

btw, i'm pretty upset about my rx-8 not being able to go offroading, or fly. idiot.
Been there, done that while driving an MT in my highheels (ok, well, maybe not the highheel part )

I see her point. Why, just last week I was upset that I couldn't fit a blast-proof safe and a palette of vinyl siding over my divided backseats. And to think I had to collapse my party tent too!

My friend thought it was idiotic about the dining room table in the backseat of an 8.

Further evidence that there is something in the water in Chicago.

Ironic she talks about how stiff the clutch is - I got into my brother's '99 Cobra to pull it into the garage last time I was home and I was AMAZED at how much effort the clutch took - to the point I don't think I could drive the car without serious adjustment after my silky smooth 8.

Also, I'd love to see someone carry a kitchen table in ... just about any car.

I guess it's all been said before, but this woman is a moron and a discredit to the better sex.

I was going to reserve comments about her being a female auto journalist, but she had to mention a "female issue" towards the end of the article.

Obviously not an auto enthusiast. Wearing heels while driving a sportscar? And thinking about gettiing a desk. Surely she had other things to talk about.

Who does she think she is, Jeremy Clarkson?

It does suck...

DENIAL!!!

Come on guys It's pretty childish to berate this chick because she dogged your beloved RX8! OK, the high heel thing was stupid but otherwise, she has not complained about the RX even 1/3 a much as the whiners on this forum have!!! This forum is FILLED with complaints by owners!

Look, I'm a pretty good driver with lots of experience, even 140k on the Autobahn...and the clutch does cause problems...mine dives all too often; and I never, never, NEVER, have that problem with my 90 Corrado...ever!

As much as I love this car, the RX8 has its problems...LOTS of them.

And BTW, you lose credibility when you berate people for telling the truth, or at least their own truth...
