I think from a liability point they will not reinstall any Modifications to the car.

They are warrenting the engine. A stock engine. They are not going to give you a new engine and then install Mods., and then guarentee the new engine.

Doesn't make sense. This includes the Pullies and intake etc..

But then again who knows what they will do.

You need to be nice and corgidable when speeking to a competent Tech or Service writer.

If you do this, most likely they will put the motor back to what it was with the Mods.

Then you need to negotiate or discuss how they will warrenty the new motor.

So you have a turbo, and you want me to replace the engine for a vaccum leak and gaurantee the new engine for x number of miles? (100,000) Look at it from their point of view.

I stll have the stock CAT, but it's missing a hanger

So, if I need to change anything, that will be the only mod I change.

Might be good to pull the catch can off as well since that messes with vacuum lines.

My current major mods include a RP high flow CAT, and the throttle body bypass mod on my engine. Do you think these two things would "mess with" the test results, or make a Mazda dealer checking out my car snuff at my car and not want to do the check? Or the fact that I do run Royal Purple full synthetic 5w20? would they be able to detect I'm using a synthetic? and thus invalidate my ability to qualify for a new engine (if thats really necessary)

I havent had any problems in my 27K miles so far really but if there is a recall and test I want to make sure my car is running at the best it can, and if it means a new free engine, so be it.
I don't think anyone will really know until people start going in to get their engines tested, and then come back here with the reports.

I just installed an Umnitza CAI and I'm already worried that if they see that they'll immediately disqualify me for a new engine. With the way Mazda has been running itself lately, for all we know it could depend on the mood of the person you work with! Blegh...

Not to sure about that Zoom44........

I got one of those Pettit radio ***** and I heard that may cause a frequency interferance with the vaccum causing a leak.

I'm just left wondering how many engines will actually meet Mazda's criteria for replacement, even if some ultimately get disqualified for "mods." I'm certainly no expert on mods to the Wankel (mine is showroom stock), but it would worry me some if the Renesis was so delicate that seemingly innocuous things such as 3rd party "performance enhancing" airfilters and mufflers would somehow harm the engine. Deeper things, such as messing with flash curves and other computer feedback items I can understand as possibly detrimental if not done with extreme care and proven safe with long-term testing. In any case, I hope the need for engine replacements are few and far between.

They have every REASON to be.

If the 8 is your primary car..or for some other reason cannot do without it for a perid of time, you dont have the oppourtunity to call BS and sue the dealer..you have to suck it up and deal with it yourself.

You can call out MMWO, but you aint gonna scare em. Whoever blinks first wins.

Ditto, wheres the beef on this 'recall'. What qualifies, what do you state, what do you get in return thats any DIFFERENT from your last motor design?

Mazda has been great at supplying loaner cars during any long service.

Maybe this is all just to get back at RX8club for one of our wise guy members leaking the video.

I think what you get is an engine that has not been run with synthetic oil in a hot climate, and therefore is not blowing excess oil into the cat.

From the info in the news stories, the issue is damage to the cat, not problems with how the engine itself is running. It seems to me that if you live in a state with emissions testing, you really need to follow the recall.

I wonder what they're going to do with all the engines they take out. Rebuild/reuse them? If not, and they're just going to scrap them, I'd like to get my hands on one.
