The mazda dealer will not and can not tear your engine block apart to investigate it. They can perform external tests, and they consult with mazda HQ internally, who makes the decision on whether or not to give you a new engine.

If they do, a reman (mazda rebuild) is sent to the dealer, your engine is pulled from your car, your accessories and externals are removed from your block and transferred to the reman, and it is reinstalled. The dealer puts your old block in the crate and returns it to the reman facility to be torn down at a later time, and any reuseable parts will be salvaged there for later reuse in other remans.

Most dealer techs have little to no idea what is even inside a rotary, much less how to inspect or build one. Even those who do, are not supposed to tear down customer cores per mazda procedures. Some rotary-knowledgeable techs will do side-work for customers on the weekends, though. When I took my rebuilt engine/6 speed swap car to my dealer for PCM key programming, 3 or 4 techs were huddled around me as I explained that I built the engine, what all was inside, what the common wear and failure points, etc. are in the engines because they'd never had one apart. They are not trained in troubleshooting or working with the internals at all, only troubleshooting the engine externally and how to work with the accessories and parts that go onto the block.

Mazda will care less about any references or statements you give that are not backed up by printed, dated receipts for oil and filters. Now, every dealership is different, and if you make friends with the people in the dealership, they may overlook it. The dealerships report to mazda itself, and how the dealership portrays your issues, test results, and maintenance history, will determine what mazda HQ authorizes. That is why someones one dealer will not do something and another will. Some go more "by the book" than others.

^ or save up for a beater? cause what killed my last engine was short drives, especially to school. to my high school i had a 5 min drive TOPS. but im going to college now so its more like a 20 - 30 min drive and little lights. haha i owned the car for about 3 years now and for the first 2 years the car didnt see a lot of road. starting about early summer is when the miles started to stack up. lol idk. i really love this car and i wont be able to find a car that will give me the joy as this one does. maybe an s2k... friend just got one and its a fun car. =/

Out of curiosity, when Mazda replaces the older Renesis engines that have failed compression tests, do they replace them with updated engines that have the upgraded lubrication system? As far as I know the "upgrade" is just an extra weep hole to lubricate the middle of the apex seals, so it seems like it should be easy enough to do the upgrade while rebuilding failed engines back at the factory.

No. You get another engine block of identical type as your original, built from a mix of new and used parts salvaged from other failed engines.

All of your original external accessories (intake manifolds, exhaust, wiring, injectors, oil injection system, alternator, etc.) are reused and transferred from the old block to the "new" one.

The 04-08 oil injection system uses a certain OMP with 4 ports, 4 lines, and 4 injectors, 2 per rotor housing. The 09+ engines with the updated oil injection you describe use a different OMP with 6 ports, lines, and injectors, and the rotor housings each have 3 holes. Obviously there is no way to reuse a 4 line OMP setup on a 6 line block, so they give you <gasp> a stock 4 OMP hole block, same as you originally had.

Their warranty doesnt say they will upgrade your engine with a better one. It says they will support the one you initially bought.

I had a 2005 Mazda RX8 with 55,000 miles and Mazda did the compression test which cost me $600 and then told me I needed a new engine which would cost me 14,000 US. 😩 I had to walk away and leave my beautiful car with them. 😩

Sorry bro.
I saw it in another thread.
I think you got taken advantage of.
