I love the car and have have very few problems with it. Remanufactured engines can be better than new engines. We'll see what happens over the course of this recall.

Like others have said, it would depend on the buy-back price.
I really love this car. But these issues that are popping up..... I am just wondering if its gonna last the 200-300K miles that I would like to keep it for. Maybe thats just an unrealistic goal.

I would keep my RX8. I have had problems with it (including a engine replacement, 3 catalytic converters replaced, numerous misfires and CEL's), but Mazda has come though with the warrenty claims. The only things I have had to replace are tires, brake pads and oil. And now they are extending the drivetrain warrenty out even further.

Im wondering. on the Engine Test.
IT saids
1. Drive around at least 20 mins under 45mph, AC and fan on Max, and shift below 3K rpm. at the 10 mins mark, stop and and park, put it in N for one minute, and monitor engine rpm using data logger PID(I can look at my Taco with my eyes I think) At 20 mins mark stop in parking lot, put it in N for one min and monitor engine RPM (with my eyes)
2. Did you experience any of the following ....
- Engine Stall (me, nope)
- The vehicle has a severe lack of power (I dont think so)
- The RPM PID drops to below 700 rpm during the one minute stops. (I dont notice it much but I think so.)
Engine replacement required ? ...... Maybe I should reset my ECU(Unplug the battery to be the fastest way) tomorrow and see what sup.

If the buyback is at the price I paid, I'd take it in a heartbeat and get a new G35 Coupe. If the buyback is for the blue book depreciated price, I think I'll keep it and see if Mazda solved the problem permanently. The G35 Couple is attractive, powerful, and more luxurious, but the RX-8 handles better than any car I've ever driven. I can throw it around corners and it won't bite you on dry pavement.

Buyback would depend on the price offered. Not gonna give it away.
Also, I agree with a few of the other posts, my 04 only has 9K miles on it and there is no way a remanufactured engine is going in it should Mazda decide it needs one!! I'll bitch till we're all blue in the face!!

I'm surprised so many would take the buyback. I've done my share of bitching and questioning about the remanufactured process and specs...but I would not allow Mazda to buyback my car. I'll take the remanufactured engine and be happy.

To be honest, I believe that while most people on this forum love the RX-8 (myself included) they are not satisfied with Mazda and all the stupid things that are not right with the RX-8. Not that Mazda hasn't fixed the problems, it is just that they should have been caught in the cars at the plant, not the car in my garage. The problems are just too numerous and too obvious to simply chalk up to Version 1.0 issues.
IMHO of course.

Same here.
My '05 has 6,800 miles.
I've babied the car, except the occassional blips for good health, haven't driven it in winter, and DO NOT want a remanufactured motor if that's the option.
I love the car, but don't want a remanufactured motor that who knows has been where in my bay.
Just my cheap .02
