Snoopy's problem wasn't trying to avoid the animal - it was losing control from the swerve. Trying to avoid an animal can be good practice for the time when it might be a child darting in front of you.

so when a child darts in front of you, do you not swerve and just hit the brakes too?

Hit a rabbit once doing like 90mph on the interstate 2 weeks after buying the car. Not too much damage, a dented exhaust (which I still have) and I needed an alignment. Thats my only animal story

Yes. If you're in a residential/commercial zone you shouldn't be going more than 25 or 35mph respectively. So slamming on the brakes will stop you very quickly.

If a kid darts out while I'm going 70mph on the highway.. well. sucks for him honestly. Shouldn't have been running across a highway anyways.

It depends on the child.

You do whatever is necessary to avoid a child, including putting yourself and/or property at risk. Hitting the kid isn't one of the tradeoffs. If it's an animal, hitting the critter is an option.

And you make these decisions in a split second.

i know for next time. next time ill hit the animal, and feel bad for like a few minutes. instead of feeling like this for a long long time.

such a stupid way for it to go too. i cant imagine it going any differently though. it was such an quick reaction, my problem was not being able to gain control again when i lost it.

to those who totalled their 8: did the insurance company pay out? or did you still owe money? ive only had mine since febuary so i dont know how much it depreceiated.

i know all different factors come into play when it comes to this, im just wondering. they still havent gotten back to me yet on the results.

thanks for all the nice words too guys...
waaaaaaaaaahhhh

Its not completely your fault man, its reactions. You just need to make it a reaction to not react, if that makes sense.....kinda
